since most proglyrics were since the beginning very cryptical and impossible to understand, I asked myself which of those many lyrics are your favorite? Itd be nice if youd summerize the content briefly Id go with: Agalloch- In the shadow of our pale companion which is about men and their search for god and god being an anachronism in our times King Crimson - Epitaph the opposite of Lennons "imagine" ^^ and many german lyrics |

Locomotive Breath - religion and the Church's follies
Thick as a Brick - social commentary on everything Baker Street Muse ("there as a little boy, stood on a burning log, rubbing his hands with glee"...) - life on the streets

All of Pawn Hearts album - internal torment and political folly
Undercover Man - who knows

I don't think 'Firth of Fifth' is about the folly of mankind; it's about the majesty of nature!
Still, many prog lyrics are PURPOSELY obscure, and there seems to be little point in summarizing them. |

1. Genesis - The Lamb Lies down on Broadway [Entire Album is lyrically brilliant], but Favorite Track is "The Lamia" 2. Genesis - Foxtrot - "Suppers Ready" is poetry at its best.
3. Yes - Fragile - Heart of the Sunrise - I love the way the words sound, more than I love the actual meaning. It is one of the best examples of how lyrics affect the actual music weather you connect to the meaning or not. The way the words sound, all through the song [especially the climax] affect the music directly. Words are music too :) -------------

I love most of Yes lyrics, specially CTTE and Gates of Delirium... Some Genesis lyrics are ok too, specially the 70's period (LLDOB, Foxtrot and SEBTP have great lyrics... thanx Mr. Gabriel)... Steve Wilson make great lyrics too (I love the lyrics on Hatesong, Blackest Eyes, The Sky Moves Sideways P1, Last Chance to Evacuate..., Don't Hate Me, Stop Swimming, etc)... King Crimson lyrics are ok, specially on Sinfield period (what a lyricist!) .. and I aldo love Mr. Doctor's lyrics for Devil Doll... totally dark and romanticly poetic!!! ------------- ... Strong agreement with you on Fish-era Marillion. A big part of what makes those albums for me is Fish's lyrical style and content. Agree with so many others on Jon Anderson too. His pinnacle of poetry and music-fit for me are the lyrics of Awaken from Going for the One - quite an awesomely beautiful song. And, of course, I am very partial to Peter Gabriel's lyrics, especially when he was with Genesis (hence, the quote I use in my signature).... |
