News of the World. No, it's not all prog, but so what? "It's Late" is one of my favorite Queen tracks ever.

the debut for me. 70s Queen is AMAZING anyway, all of them are great. IMHO.

Queen's debut is amongst my fav Queen albums.
hard choice between that and ADATR, but any album with My Fairy King on it will always be special.

IMO, 'Sheer Heart Attack' is the best here. There was, however, a definite decline after 'Jazz'. It switched to disappointingly bland and non creative AOR. I blame the synths which they had vetoed up until then. All of these are quite good albums, otherwise. 'A Day At The Races' is a bit of a weaker clone of ANATO though.

Killer Queen got me interested in Queen... and then there's Brighton Rock ... and Now I'm Here .... Sheer Heart Attack, although the debut is great and Queen II isn't boring at all.

I had to vote for Jazz since it didn't have any votes. A wonderful album.

I don't feel qualified to vote since I haven't heard enough of these, but I really love ADATR.

Sheer Heart Attack -- the only Queen album I consistently liked.
They go ever deeper down the commercial toilet after ANATO -- and they're circling the bowl on that one!

Shame on you - their finest, most varied and certainly most progressive (no, I'm not referring to that track ) album - sir, you have no taste whatsoever; further, I'd go so far to say that ANATO pwns all those in the above poll!
Ahem -
As far as the poll goes, though, my vote has to go for the debut album - if for nothing else, Great King Rat!

I'd say they got progressively weaker after ANATO, but to these ears, it's easily the best album they've ever recorded. I've always felt that. I feel their 80s output actually gets worse on repeated airings!

Geez -- talk about yer difficult queens....
Okay then, not yet "circling the bowl," but preparing to flush, in any case.
Radio success ruined them, it seems.

Commercial isn't necessarily bad. Why does everyone use it as an insult?

Which is why I've always seen 'Live Killers' as their last great album; a stormer of a set (just don't mention the overdubs ) and the swansong of Queen as a hard rock band.

Sheer Heart Attack.
It's odd to see how everyone 'forgot' the recurring quality that started with A Kind Of Magic and resulted into Innuendo, which by no means cannot be called 'bad' by any stretch of the imagination. I see the early 80's as their weakest period, however, The Game still offered a selection of good tracks, like Play The Game, Dragon Attack and Save Me, one of their very best singles.

Sheer Heart Attack
News of the World conatined We Will Rock YOu, We Are The Champions and some other good tarcks. Day at the Races contains Tie Your Mother Down and Somebody to Love (IMO his best vox), but Sheer Heart Attack is the best consistently from this group.

and Queen should be under the Art Rock genre...

I had to go with A Day At The Races...something about that disc just screams at me. I also think that this is the last "grand" Queen album! Later albums still rocked but this was the last of their true royal albums IMHO. Their first album gets a close second with Jazz an honorable mention.

Honestly, between the debut, A Day at the Races, and News of the World.... I can't decide. Queen II and ANATO are obviously the best though, and by best I don't mean "most progressive"... Queen II and ANATO are rock masterpieces.... they have a few albums I would call great after those two but it's hard to order them in terms of favorite to least favorite.

It's a tough choice, but with this list it's a tie between Jazz and A Day at the Races, with "Day", well, carrying the day. I also like A Night at the Opera, dispite the objections of others.

I've always had a thing for Day at the Races.
Tie Your Mother Down, Long Away, Millionaire Waltz, You and I, Somebody To Love, Drowse...
Maybe not that progressive, but it's great rock!
