He certainly sings in a high register, but so do lots of others. I can't really see any other link to Chicago but my knowledge of them is limited. Oh, and who's Peter Cetera?  |

CHICAGO's (now former) lead singer, who sang all those classic cheezefest anthems like "if you leave me now", "you're the inspiration" et cetera 
i see CHICAGO in a way sharing it's fate with REO speedwagon – both bands started out as promising and highly individual hard rockin' and hard workin' bands (CHICAGO with an almost big band feel due to its brass section) that later succumbed to the mighty dollar and recorded some awful tunes for "the demography", so to speak. and, before everybody starts mouthing off, both bands have NO place in progarchives.com! anyone care to disagree? ------------- progressive rock and rural tranquility don't match. true or false? |

I don't quite hear it, although they do both have high voices, and both have turned into big time cheezemeisters in their old age. Well, I only really hear it on "Face to Face" (although there are hints elsewhere IMO). His songs on that album are mostly power pop balladry things, and every time I listen to it I am reminded of Cetera's vocals, mainly around Chicago 16-17. Maybe it is just me after all...

| Oh definitely I agree. This was the direction Les Holroyd seemingly wanted BJH to go in, as more or less every song he did in this era sounds like pure sop. He had some excellent moments- 'Echoes and Shadows', 'Victims Of Circumstance' and 'Kiev', but almost unanimously the weakest songs on the BJH albums for me are Holroyd's. I actually find it quite hard to accept it's the same man singing on the glorious 70s albums- his voice changed a lot in the 80s to a Bee Gees/Peter Cetera like sound. |

| I see what you're saying. Some of that is down to production - he has increasingly swamped his voice with reverb etc. Also, his voice hasn't aged well, as demonstrated on his 2003 live album - his diction/phrasing or whatever is very bad in places. |

Well, as Les is a confessed Fan of Chicago there's surely the influence to be heard, not only in the singing ( the "I can no longer see"-part in "I've got a Feeling" ows a lot to a Chicago-song, too ! ), but i don't think of Peter Cetera when I hear Les SINGING.
