I just needed to get this off of my chest. I'm still reeling from the magnificent performance by Porcupine Tree at the House of Blues in West Hollywood California last evening. I'm not reviewing every song, just commenting on the entire show. This is only the second performance I've seen of the band. I first saw them last year at this same venue, and was floored then. But last night the performance was as perfect as it could get. There has been a lot of hype about the new material presented recently, and it's all true, with NO exagerations. The hour of new material was stunning, mind blowing, and very, VERY PROG! Steven Wilson (Prog Archives member name Swilson) tried to ease our fears last month on a post here to let us know he is keeping PT's prog-legacy alive, and he wasn't kidding! The one hour first set of new material, to be on the next album I believe will become PT's masterpiece. All of the new material is unbelievable, and has the markings of lengendary status. Steven Wilson's genius has again served up a musicical extravaganza of the highest quality. As great as all of PT's music is, it is hard to believe that Mr. Wilson and Co. could reach higher and beyond their previous material, but they have! And the 17 minute plus epic piece nicknamed "The Beast" had audience members mouth's dropped open and tears pouring down my face!Cry I have never heard such an emotional and powerful piece of music from PT as this. This track could possibly become PT's "Echoes" or "Supper's Ready." The group musically was tighter than ever, and the power that shot from the stage was, at times simply overwhelming. The second set was a power-packed cornicopia of PT favorites that highly charged up the audience too! I mean, WOW!  Without any dout whatsoever, PT has to be not only one of the world's top progressive rock acts, but also one of the world's great rock bands in gereral. In an era of music that sometimes sells it's fans short, and leaves them disapointed, Porcupine Tree delivers both music and performance of the highest satisfaction plus the highest artist values. I have not seen a show as great as this in a long, long time. I'd pay triple the price (please don't get any ideas Steven!) to see a show like this again. This was not only a prog lover's dream concert, any rock music fan would have been decked too! Thank you Steven and PT. Whew! I needed to vent all that! Anyone else at the show last night? Was I dreaming, or was this show just magic?Clap
