Survivor is going to pit 4 different races against eachother- there is a team of blacks, whites, latinos, and Asians (I believe) Is this going too far? Are you going to watch it? Companies such as Chevrolet are alreay pulling their adds from the show- what do you guys feel about this?

reality TV has gone downhill in the past few years as its become more popular. I remember when "America's Top Model" aired: I thought now they are just making it obvious that only beautiful people can be on TV. The Show "Beauty and the Geek" was seriously based on stereotype. As reality TV 'progresses' (or in this cas digresses) it needs to become more and more shocking and controversial. I believe this stunt of their's will work because even bad publicity will work, this shock factor will get more and more people interested. The network is maybe taking a gamble but I believe it will work and if I am right then its pretty sad what mainstream america is becoming.

That's amazing that reality TV has gone downhill. It didn't have far to go when it started.

I think the original idea of reality TV was interesting. such as "The Real World" 7 people live together for 6 months and its videotaped in a documentary fashion, a simple social experiment, no prizes just people and their reactions. As that grew popular other networks wanted to buy into the popularity and lowered the values and increased the shock to raise the profits. Now its evolved and lowered standards enough to do what CBS is now doing.

Exactly.  I think I watched some of the Real World when I was 14 or 15, but I've never bothered with this stuff.  It's a recipe for disaster.  And now we have cultures pitted against each other all for the sake of money and ratings... it's sad, and it's regressive.

Since I haven't watched any of the survivors before, I see no reason to start now.

This is intresting, but at the same time, just plain wrong.  It's obviously purely racial, and a major push at the ratings hike.

That is really not very nice. I though humanity (and especially the United States) had gotten over this racial segregation thing. Pretty scary news.

I was NEVER into so-called reality shows.  Try and make me believe that if you take a handful of nobodies, put them in front of cameras and tell them they are going to be seen by millions of people on a weekly basis, they will act as they do in their everyday lives?  Give me a break.  Anyone into reality shows needs to go out a little, get a life or something...

The past few years we've seen quite a few shows like this come by, and getting worse. We knew it was coming though, ever since Stephen King wrote "The running man" and "The long walk" (he wrote using his pseudonym Richard Bachman).

Ti's sick but true, and I'll never see this show - even if it does make it to Europe.

I wouldn't watch it... but not because of the race - based teams... I just dont like Survivor...

Who cares if they split up the races? It's not like any one race is being treated worse than the other... They're equal but separate... just like real f***ing life.

Thumbs Down No, I won't watch it.

I wouldn't watch Survivor before this, either -- "Reality" TV with a bunch of rude, backstabbing, preening wannabes is not my idea of time well spent. Get a life! (Give me some good acting and writing ANY DAY!)Stern Smile

I certainly won't watch this racially-segregated Survivor, either. This is a concept that Hitler, and Apartheid-era South Africa would have loved -- if they could have been guaranteed the "right" results!

I already hate Survivor enough for helping create my generations corporate conformity and mindless media derived culture, but now I hate it ten times more. As Peter said, this is not helping cease the racial divsions that plague America. I can't imagine how it could be anymore racist to the point where the NAACP are bombing the studio.

I strongly agree with Peter on this one.

But seriously,

Peter Gabriel said it very well:

There's safety in numbers
When you learn to divide
How can we be in
If there is no outside
All shades of opinion
Feed an open mind
But your values are twisted
Let us help you unwind
You may look like we do
Talk like we do
-But you know how it is

You're not one of us
Not one of us
No you're not one of us
