Geddy Lee is a gifted vocalist. He just hasn't got a good voice.LOL

A genuine giant of Rock music though.

There's a special name for Geddy Lee's vocal range: Castrato

for me its a love hate relationship for the majority of these types of signers, i can tolerate them but after to long i need to turn the sound off. (Dont get me wrong, I even just purchased my first rush album and i like it very much) Except for john anderson, i love that guys vocals for some inexplicable reason.

Thats because Jon's voice is ethereal and Geddy's sounds like puberty is kicking his ass.  If you want great vocals and great lyrics (and a great band all-around) try Gentle Giant.  Gentle Giant has two vocalists that each do what they do very well; the one has great power and timing and the other has a beautiful falsetto.

I don't think Robert Plant fits into this category at all. He had plenty of range, wonderful voice in my opinion.

MB:

For what it's worth, it's "testicles," not "testacles."

Also, there is a difference between singing in falsetto and "castrati."  Any good singer can sing in falsetto.  My problem with naming Jon Anderson here is that he doesn't always sing in that range; we simply have the perception that he does because we are so familiar with it.  Whereas Geddy Lee really does seem to have a single, limited range that is high tenor/falsetto.

By the "definition" inherent in this thread, where would you put someone like Freddy Mercury?  David Bowie?  Phil Shulman?  All had "high" voices, but were not "limited" to that range.

Peace.

Yes , im not a moron thank you.. But which sounds better to you? "Sans-testacles" has no flair or ring to it! "Sans- Testacles" is a take on mock french and sounds much better, dont you think?

i think it more depends on what the rest of the band
is playing to back it up. for example, i don't see yes or
rush doing any john lee hooker songs anytime soon.

couldn't agree more!

the high pitch of geddy lee's voice really makes the music fresh and energizing once you stop laughing your head off about it.

if you really want a good kick, take any rush lp and play it at the 45 speed... whew!

I like high voices.

Burke Shelly in Budgie as well.

Geddy's voice has come down a few octaves now anyway. I like his new voice too.
