I know that creating such a poll is like committing a shameful sin but I just can't help wondering what are your choices here.

Forgive me for the idea but I would just like to know your answers.

We Can't Dance had a few great songs, such as Driving the Last Spike, Dreaming While you Sleep and the magnificent Fading Lights.  Calling All Stations had a few great songs too, like the title track (that still gives me the goosebumps) Alien Afternoon, The Dividing Line.  I really liked Ray WIlson's voice, and Nick D'Virigilio's appearances.

But even the pop songs on We Can't Dance I really enjoyed, so my vote goes for that one.  Keep in mind that Genesis was no longer a prog band, and the pop albums they made were excellent for what they were, great pop albums (though Abacab I still find awful as a pop album, and on Genesis I only like the first four songs, the rest I find dreadful).

Not a sin at all, we'll see something different.  I am keeping an interested eye on this poll !

This has been done before and the answer remains Abacab (which is better than Duke).

Still not sure why Abacab is considered a bad Genesis album. Same goes for the self-titled. I love both, with Abacab edging out Genesis.

I am a rabid Genesis fan, have been since the mid '70s. I voted self titled, But I hope to see Invisible Touch get at least one vote..

I'm torn between Genesis, Invisible Touch, and We Can't Dance (as I rate them all the same in my book)... hmmmm... Genesis.

Abacab most definitely.

These are not bad albums, it's just that they're not prog and that's why many diss them.

Personally I like them; there are some songs however that I don't like (that much or at all):
  Who dunnit?DeadWacko
  Illegal Alien Confused
In Too DeepCry (tear-jerking ballad IMHO)
I Can't DanceClown (a joke, thank God I have a sense of humour)

I haven't heard the whole album, but watching a concert from the "Mama Tour" changed my mind about Phil Collins Genesis, and motivated me to get Duke, which is quite good.

So I guess the self-titled gets my vote.

Genesis obviously, it's very, I would say clever pop, that doesn't get on my nerves; subsequent works are awfully generic pop sh*t, with only 1-2 decent songs.

'We Can't Dance', imo- no question. All of it is above the majority of their 80s output bar the anodyne title track, 'Never A Time' and 'Way Of The World'. However, there are clearly 4 songs that are better than everything else on it- 'No Son Of Mine', 'Driving The Last Spike', 'Dreaming While You Sleep' and the excellent 'Fading Lights'.

'Abacab' I've never liked much. Actually the live versions of some songs like the title track, 'Me And Sarah Jane', 'Dodo/Lurker' and 'Keep It Dark' are better than the studio ones. I disliked the production on this one intensely as it is so alarmingly un-organic, polished and calculated. Also, hard to defend the likes of 'No Reply At All', 'Who Dunnit' and 'Another Record' and I'm a huge fan!

'Genesis' is half good and half terrible, imo. The good is the first side- 'Mama' is very tense and dramatic, 'Home By The Sea' is an impressive epic and 'That's All' is acceptable MOR. However, the second side is completely irredeemable, imho.

'Invisible Touch' was their most commercially successful effort, and that says it all. Musically it's pretty moribund bar 'The Brazilian' and a lovely piano piece in 'In Too Deep', and almost every track (even 'Domino', imo their weakest epic) is just dull and overtly commercial.

'Calling All Stations' has one good track- the title track. The rest of it is pretty poor, imo.

Abacab. It's the only one of the bunch I can still listen to, but I'm not that interested in listening to it anymore.

Have to go with 'We cant dance' simply coz 'Fading lights' is one of the best thing the band ever did.

Personally I  have never thought that these albums are the worst.

All of them are better than FGTR. And I like "Abacab" and "Genesis" more than I like "W&W" and "ATTW3"

"Genesis" is my favourite of the above albums.
