I think I can speak for all of us when I say that "at least prog has not been taken completely over by corporate music interests"...Dum di dum di dum dum...thanks to P Gabriel. I've been a progressivly orientated, classically trained guitarist for the better part of the last 25 years, starting first with the fusion rock of the day (Jeff Beck, Jean Luc Ponte, Weather Report, The Dregs), moving on to early prog (Genisis: pre-"Seconds out", Todd Rundgrens' Utopia, Floyd, early Rush, Gentle Giant, Tull, Jean Michelle Jarre', Peter Gabriel, Thomas Dolby), into metal influenced prog and instrumental (Racer X, Yngwie, Steve Vai (with and without Zappa), Satch (more like blues, but boy does he shred!!!), Mike Keanely, new Rush, Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, KingsX), and everything else I listen to...classical baroque guitar, and string quartets, modern electric jazz, and...the kitchen sink... I've also been a huge fan of the musicians, and the dedication to their art which is paramount to the performance and writing aspects of progressive music... To me: progressive rock encompasses all those forms of rock that cannot be pushed into a little box by the corporate money makers. As progressive rock fans, and musicians, we are charged with pushing the boundries of the "casual" music fan...every once in a while, a band like Kansas, or KingsX, or Rush, gets a little radio play, gives a ray of hope that maybe someday "real" musicians may get their due...  My own progressive based music cannot be pushed into a box...yet...I hope not...I've been through the cover band gravy train circuit, the original "metal" bands (horrible), the crossover stuff, only to finally quit "chasing the target market"... and be true to who I am. Is it prog? Only you can tell me...do me a favor and check out my site at Soundclick http://www.soundclick.com/digitalchemistry - http://www.soundclick.com/digitalchemistry I think there's a "hot, or, flop" voting box, and a message board...say hi, listen to the songs...and help me bring some integrity to the prog rock charts there...turns out that most of the bands on the front page of the progressive rock, are not progressive rock . They are techno, and ambient, or "other" "crosslinking" into the prog rock charts. Personally, I think that's underhanded, but I figure, let's beat them at their own game. Anyway...if you want me to check out your stuff, or review: I'm blunt, and I won't pull any punches, but if it's cool...all bets are off...
