it's not bad obviously, you have a whole bunch of great stuff!
but because the albums i like most are missing (early camel stuff, u only have one king crimson album? , godspeed you! black emperor, caravan, soft machine (you don't seem to be that much into canterbury, do you?)) I'll only give it "average". But it's prog-fan average! way better than "normal" people's collections! Please don't misunderstand that!

Good collection.Lots of ELP,Yes,Genesis and Rush...you can't go wrong there! You may want to explore bands that are not so prog based but have prog tendencies.ie Muse,Radiohead and Mansun are all worth a try. That would help expand your collection a bit. Also if you like Tubular Bells then you MUST get Ommadawn and Amarok as well! Maybe some Vangelis -Heaven Hell,Spiral and Albedo 0.39 wouldn't go amiss either.

You're definitely missing the early Camel, Marillion, Floyd and Gong albums - and you NEED ITCOTCK.
Pretty good, otherwise
P.S. No Hawkwind?

great collection, You have of most great bands some albums, but not their best. There's room to expand. (get a bigger house)
BTW do you like every album you have?

Good collection!
Good to see so many Rush, Genesis & Yes albums. It looks a bit like my collection in that respect.
I've no George Benson, but a fair amount of Madonna and Jacko records..

Richard's right.. no record collection is complete without ITCOTCK.
Also I'd get ELP-Tarkus, ELP - Pictures, and Yes-Relayer, as well as Pink Floyd - Meddle... all pretty easy to still get on vinyl thru ebay....

Very traditional collection - lots of prog classics. You'd probably enjoy the Italian scene I would wager, so check out PFM, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Picchio Dal Pozzo.
PFM and Banco have done English versions of some albums if you cant bare the thought of Italian, but I would try to stick to the originals.
Storia Di Un Minuto (no translation); Per Un Amico (English version: 'Photos Of Ghosts' with extra instrumental track Old Rain); L'Isola De Niente (English version: 'The World Became The World), and Chocolate Kings (already in English) are all exceptional. Beware the English lyrics though - predominantly written by Pete Sinfield, who decided that rather than translate Pagani's original poetry, he'd make something else up - and, as you can imagine, its mostly nonsense about windmills, fairies, and pixie treehouses (a minor exaggeration there...). They got rid of him for CHocolate Kings and got an Italian poetess to help contribute to what are some really poignant and prophetic lyrics.
Banco's 1st album (of the same name), Darwin, and Io Sono Nato Libero are widely regarded as their most innovative and enjoyable works. I think Nato Libero was re-recorded in English, but cant remember now.
Both bands drew heavily on English influences, but added a much more classical atmosphere to their music, with a tendency towards the gentle and ambient, rather than the bombastic and flamboyant, as bands like ELP, VDGG etc. had a propensity to become at times.
Also, if you like Tangerine Dream, try Neu!, Can, and possibly even Art Zoyd. Either of the Amon Duul's may hold interest for you too. I suppose the message is, if you're looking for something new, try Italy and Germany...

oh, i didn't notice that it's only records..... then it's a great collection, of course, since i don't have any vinyls ....(my father has tons though)
But I'm still missing Canterbury, Krautrock, post-rock
How come you don't have more King Crimson or Camel stuff? Did you hear it at a friend's house and didn't like it? Or haven't you even tried it yet?
Also i think that our tastes differ quite a lot. Genesis, Yes, Rush and ELP aren't even in my top 5 bands

Good records! (I'm unclear, do you mean Vinyls/CD's/tapes/whatever or just vinyls). You NEED to expand on your Marillion, KC, FRANK ZAPPA!!??, Alan Parsons, Rush (get all of them), and maybe a few more. You have the LEAST essential Jimi Hendrix. Get "Band Of Gypsys" and "Electric Lady Land", you will enjoy those!! If you like Steely Dan's "Aja" get "Pretzel Logic", "Gaucho" and "Countdown to Ecstacy" Weird you have no "The Mothers/Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa" albums!? Get "Burnt Weeny Sandwhich", "Hot Rats", and "We're only in it for the mone". Wheres your Peter Gabriel!!!! Get "III", "VI"," plays live" and "UP^^^^" NIce to see you have some TODD. But I don't see "A Wizard/ ATRue Star", "Todd", "Inintiation", or "Healing" They are the definitive Todd records. At least you have "Back to the bars"(my dad was at the cleveland show") Anyways I may be wrong 'cuz you might just be talking about vinyls, I dunno?
You got me thinking about my collection, I was half temted to post it

Congratulations! Although you list a lot of bands that I don't like (I learned to hate Chicago in high school, and I will continue to do so 'til the day I die), and you're missing a ton of bands that I do like, I voted "good" for the simple reason that you HAVE a record collection. I've got nothing against CDs (I might have more than 500) but there is something inherently wonderful about vinyl. And I'm not just talking about sound quality.
How long have you been working on your collection? I bought my first vinyl album in 1979, Steve Martin's Wild And Crazy Guy. I still have it. My first music album was Styx's Pieces Of Eight. They are still a guilty pleasure for me. Styx led to ELO led to Supertramp led to Kansas etc. etc. until now I'm into Faust, Frank Zappa, Soft Machine... (and that's just some of the proggie stuff).
I've been very surprised lately to see some of the eBay prices for records that I bought new in the '80s. And I've picked up a few used records at library fund-raising sales (and such) for $1 that sell for around $60 or more.

Umm... I started collecting records... maybe a year ago? I'm 17, so I
never had the opportunity to collect records in the 70s and 80s .
Thankfully for the advent of the CD, I've been able to buy most of my
records at around $2 on average, with a few exceptions. The first
record I ever got was actually via eBay, and it was Return to Forever's
Romantic Warrior.
Its funny you made that comment about the Chicago records, because I
don't like them all that much myself... I didn't buy either of them, I
got them from a friend, as did I get a lot of the albums I own. Most of
the more solid collections I have, the Rush, Yes, Genesis, PF, Tull,
and ELP, took a little more money and a little more searching.
I should also mention how much I love finding records.
I love the hunt as much as I love the game, really. Someday I'll be in
an old record store, searching through a box of records that they
recently got in, and in a sea of the typical barbara streissand, neil
diamond, rod stewart... suddenly that one album that I've been
searching for for so long will appear, and what a rush! Its great, and
its really addictive.

I've bought most of mine new, and I run on $15 a week, so I can get one a week. I'm asking for like 20 for X-mas, though, and I already have most essential prog stuff (In the Court of the CK evades me still! --but it's at the top of my X-mas list). Even though I've been collecting for only a half-year, I still have quite a bit (about 30-35, maybe 40) of CDs. No LPs. No cassettes. They don't count, because there's no way I could listen to them but from the living room, and my parents usually don't wanna hear it.
I ought to take up eBay.

That's happened to me a few times. Doesn't happen often but I don't have as much time or money to devote to my hobby as I'd like. My most memorable find was probably at a charity record sale in Buffalo, NY. Their local NPR station used to have a yearly sale called Vinyl Madness. Records were $1 each. I found Brian Eno's no wave compilation No New York in mint- condition. I also found an original copy of Zappa's Uncle Meat there one year, with the book.
From time to time I actually dream about record hunting. It's never a good dream, though. I'm usually desparately searching through loads of crap and coming up with nothing.

You could try
http://www.midightrecords.com - www.midightrecords.com
http://www.subterranean.org - www.subterranean.org
http://www.lpnow.com - www.lpnow.com
If you live near Pittsburgh, PA you should go to Jerry's Records ( http://www.jerrysrecords.com - www.jerrysrecords.com ). They have a TON of the more common used records at reasonable prices. They have rarer stuff too, but it's really a good place to sample some old records that you might not have heard.
I'd also suggest, if you want to get serious about record collecting, subscribing to Goldmine and/or Discoveries magazines (not sure the latter is still around, though).
