I am a technophobe and have very limited IT knowledge. I know nothing about recording music using computers.

Q1. Can the Prog Archive MP3 files be copied onto an audio CD? If so, how?

Q2. Can music on audio Cd be transferred to an ipod or modern Sony Walkman?

Q3. Can anyone provide an idiot's guide to downloading progressive rock from the internet or can anyone direct me to such a guide?

Thanks in advance!

Alrighty...

Q1 - Not without a lot of hassle. They are streaming media. If you downloaded Archives mp3s a few months back, before it got chanegd to streaming media then you can indeed copy them onto a CD.

Q2 - Yes.

Q3 - How bothered are you about the legality of mp3s? There are websites where one can download mp3s for a standard charge or subscription fee, but I personally do not condone them. They have a reputation for ripping off the artist by paying a pittance in royalties. If you want to support a band then buy their albums.

However, if you are interested in the much less legal activity of filesharing then PM me and we can discuss it privately. I shan't put the website in danger by discussing it too openly.

****Illegally downloading songs is wrong!****

That said, try dogpile.com and click mon the audio tab. Might not get many results for obscure bands, but who knows?

I would like to copy my Cds on to an mp3 player/ipod of some sort. Really I need something small that will play music unaffected by movement. I certainly do not want to share or distribute music at all. I understand that the Sony Walkman NW A1000 is quite good.

I have a Samsung YP-U1. It was around £80-90 on Amazon, 2Gb of space and it just plugs into a USB port so you can drag and drop your files onto it, couldn't be easier.

Become a member of www.emusic.com and you can buy mp3s of many bands for a very reasonable price (depending on your membership level it's around 0.20$/song).Big smile
