Duke, is probably worth while if you've exhausted all their classic albums, after that I recommend you move on to Marillion, or else Steve Hackett's solo works

Well you do know what Genesis is in the 80s and the 90s,right Alexander?

If you want Genesis "semi-prog",there is only one reference:Duke

If you want Genesis pop: Invisible Touch
If you want Genesis live: Three Sides Live

I couldn't agree more.  Duke is superb and definitely has some "Wow" moments.  Three Sides Live (the UK version) is one of the best live albums ever.  By anybody.

Then get Duke. It's poppy but proggy at the same time. Really good album actually!

Duke is tolerable... but trust me, it's better to spend your money on somethink else. Abacrap, Shapes and Invisible Touch blow ass, period. Calling All Stations and We Can't Dance are even worseDead

It's an entirely different band really, pure pop and not the kind of pop I like. I think Ivan's reviews sum it up nicely:

I must agree with many of the others and say buy Duke. It's a good album as long as you don't like of it as one of the classic genesis albums types. Has some good moments and some bad. But worth it.

What I'd like to know is what kind of a record store has only 80's and 90's Genesis?  Even a store like Fye has most of their seventies stuff. If I were you I'd buy the seventies albums first and save the more poppy stuff for later.

Get the seventies stuff from Amazon.  The used cd's there are just as good as new (for listening purposes), and half the price!

The less bad from that period IMO is Duke.

Duke's Travels is a great song.

For me Genesis agonized after W&W and totally died after Seconds Out.

Three sides Live is just a clone band trying to play what the original Genesis did in the 70's and only 25% of the album is decent.

If you want some advice but you still don't want to get the best first, buy From Genesis to the Revelation, many people that was introduced to Genesis with Puke, Abacrap or the later albums, didn't recovered from the exrerience and were never able to really like the best band from the 70's.

But it's my opinion only.

I agree that Three Sides Live is a weak live album- the weakest Genesis did, as its very ragged and has a somewhat schizophrenic set.
'Duke' has grown on me recently to the extent that (contrary to my review) I'd say there are no songs that are terrible on it. Indeed, 'Cul De Sac' and 'Man Of Our Times' are unsung gems.
'Abacab' and 'Invisible Touch' are their worst from the 80s, but I say they are both far better than the atrocious 'Calling All Stations', easily the nadir of their whole career. The eponymous album has a decent enough first side but a pretty crappy second side. 'We Can't Dance' is the best since 'Duke'- some very strong, imo, material with 'Driving The Last Spike', 'No Son Of Mine', 'Dreaming While You Sleep' and best of all, the sublime 'Fading Lights', surely their best song since 'The Lady Lies'.

Duke is a good album, but I wouldn't reccomend starting with that one. As for the others, don't waste your money (like I did).
