My son is two years old next week. In the past year, I've noticed that he tends to like certain prog songs.
To name a few:
As A Man Thinks (Mullmuzzler)
The Gates of Delirium (Yes...and yes, he does get stirred up by this song although the attention span isn't quite there yet)
I've Seen All Good People (Yes)
Knots (Gentle Giant)
Advent of Panurge (Gentle Giant)
He will often sit really still with me at night and listen to
stuff. Others he will dance. Of all the things though that
both my wife and I have played for him, those above seem to be the ones
he recognizes as I notice him perk up everytime I play them.

Cool. In kindergarten, he'll really show his classmates when he brings in a copy of In a Glass House for show and tell when all of them bring in a ball of clay or whatever.

That sounds nice actually. It's hard to see a 2 year old sitting still while listening to music or anything for that matter. Sounds like he will be one helluva son.

I know I mentioned this another similar thread some time back.. but
TFTO through headphones when Becks was pregnant with Nat paid off
handsomely. As a toddler he loved to bang out the intro to Yours
Is No Disgrace on his kiddie drum set. He's now as big a Bruford
fan as I am... and getting to be a decent drummer. With a tutor
like that... no wonder hahaha.

I think that a baby might enjoy symphonic prog. But if a baby enjoys Magma or Henry Cow I think it would be worrying.

You are made of sterner stuff than I Micky. I don't know if I could live in a house where Celine, or (gasp) country, was a regular occurrence.

I liked Queen a bunch when I was younger (as to whether or not they're prog, well, that's a different thread). Much like Australian with PAAE, I still love them as well.

sterner stuff.. hahah.. nah... music isn't EVERYTHING.. (cough..cough hahahah)
Besides I've perfected the art of the cranial jukebox... even
when Celine is completely oversinging some simplistic pop
drivel.... I've got Osanna's Palepoli pounding in my head.

Micky is one of my heroes just by that. I mean, it's not easy to live with someone who likes that kind of music. And cranial jukebox? Man, you are one tough nut to crack

My kids are 6 and 9 and they love prog. They always want me to sing Zappa songs at bed time. They really like Pojama People. They listen to King Crimson and they like Deus Ex Machina because of the wierd Latin lyrics.

This thread is ironic as my two nephews were over the other day. I was listening to Gentle Giant's Free Hand (the track), and they were dancing around like little psychos to it. Brought a big smile to my face. They are age 6 and 4.

Well that's a strange fact - talking about young kids or women - while approaching to a kind of prog music They often go to a different place---probably a question of brainstorming, above all when They try to understand a so difficult music genre--- by getting crazy for some other stupid things, especially when They are tired!!
Talking about pets, when I was very young and often played the piano, my cat couldn't stand without listening to me, by hearing something very interesting for its ears...of course We can play romantic or symphonic prog without disturbing any pet; instead for instance such Zeuhl Music (think of Dun within their album "Eros" or some other complicated and too much brainstorming albums by Magma or Univers Zero...) can disturb any creature of the world, in some circumstances!!
It's also a question of humor!!

I THINK SO ME TOO!! BUT I THINK ALSO OF A COUPLE OF IMPORTANT RECORDS FOR THEIR EARLY CANTERBURIAN AND POP PROGRESSIVE STYLE, SUCH AS: "MIRAGE" AND "MOONMADNESS", CONCERNING THE OLD TIMES (WITHOUT REGARDING OF THE SNOW GOOSE, EVEN THOUGH IT'S BETTER PERFORMED INSIDE "A LIVE RECORD") PLUS "DUST AND DREAMS" AND "HARBOUR OF TEARS" OF COURSE (TALKING ABOUT THEIR RECENT COURSE), ABOVE ALL WHEN I LISTEN TO THEIR SPLENDID LIVE "A COMING OF AGE", RESUMING THOSE COUPLE OF EXCELLENT ROMANTIC PROG ALBUMS OF THE NINETIES!! |
