Well I love both bands for there sound they bring but Dream Theater definitely got me more into prog and well Queensryche is great just seems after Promise Land there sound just wasn't the same anymore. Until OM:2 which i think is pretty decent over the other albums they've made over the years ------------- Carry On My Wayward Son |

I voted Queensryche. Operation Mindcrime IMO is better than most DT stuff. I still love DT.
I guess I just wanted to even out the poll a little.

I've got Rage..., and its not that prog to me. And, to be pedantic, JP and the others were already in Majesty writing up songs like The Killing Hand. To answer the question, DT by a country mile. ------------- Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

Is it necessary to choose a band limiting your thoughts (and feelings) to whether it's prog or not prog enough ? For musicianship, Dream Theater (except for the vocals)
For Originality, Queensryche (See the influence on the DVD´s Scenes from NY and Operation Livecrime, right down to the big flashback scene at the end)

Dream Theater was formed in 1985, as far as I know, one year before Rage for Order. Anyways, I voted for DT, because Queensrÿche isn't really a Prog band in my opinion. The only real Prog album they released was the above mentioned Rage for Order. OM was Heavy Metal with clever lyrics. |

Never thought it would happen, but I actually voted for Dream Theater here!
Queensryche made one good album - Operation Mindcrime.
The rest, such as Empire, Rage For Order, etc, are all predictable pap.

As I said in another poll, I think Iron Maiden are prog...take a listen to the songs 'Seventh son of a seventh son' and 'Alexander the great' and tell me they are not prog. |

it doens't have to have complex structures or long tracks to be prog... that thing about Rage... and Petrucci was a figure of speech, you narrow minded Theater freaks... don't try to convince me or anyone else that Ryche are not prog... i've made my peace with Queen been under the Prog Related genre but i won't tolerate any more... Ryche released 4 excellent prog albums (Rage..., Operation I & II and Promised Land)... their music was light years ahead their time... that's where their progginess lies... P.S. i love DT... they are the reason i listen to prog... |
