hello everyone. my name is Bob and i am an alcoholic...oops, wrong forum.

Confused

try that again.

my name is Bob and i have been checking out this site for about a year and a half.  it's nice to see a place where progressive music is accepted and appreciated.

i enjoy many types of music. prog is just one of many. i don't , however, like country music.  let's just get that out in the open right away.  i also dislike most hair metal, r&b, and rap (although a guilty pleasure occurs from time to time.)

lack of fundage prevents me from experimenting with the genre as much as i would like (in fact, i haven't bought a new cd in about 2 years), so it's nice that this site has streaming audio of a good portion of the artists featured here.

i realize that there are many types of personalities here.  we have purists, old school proggers who don;t appreciate new prog, new proggers who don't appreciate  old school prog and so on...  we have people from all over the world assembled here to present their viewpoints on the music they love...or hate and that's awesome.

we have ourselves a community that i'm proud and pleased to be a part of.

i promise not to bother you all too often.  i'll probably post infrequently.  but i'll be watching.Big smile

of course, i like old Genesis, King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant and whatnot.

i also enjoy prog metal:  Tool, Opeth, Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater, System of a Down, etc.

good stuff:  Anekdoten, Magma, Anglagard, Mars Volta, After Crying, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Camel, Jethro Tull and on and on...

let's not forget fz--the man!!  pure genious.

i also like alternative bands such as Arcade Fire, Hot Hot Heat, the Decemberists, the Killers, Modest Mouse, Radiohead...metal:  Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Nine Inch Nails, Helmet, Filter...post rock:  Godspeed..., Explosions in the Sky, Do Make Say Think, Hella, Black Dice, Lightning Bolt...  and...grunge... yes, grunge...Soundgarden owns, STP rules and AiC rip.

hell, i just love music.

i'm going to NEARfest this year.  i'll be the one who looks overwhelmed and uncomfortable.  i went in '03 (fantastic line-up that year) and enjoyed it immensely (although i felt like i had jet lag the whole weekend.)  This year's line-up isn't as enticng, but my friend wnats to see Keith Emerson.  I'm looking forward to FM and the Tony Levin/Hatfield pre-show.

well, that's about enough ranting from me.  pleased to be on board.
