the Tyrannosaurus Rex/ T rex are a creation of Marc Bolan. All they know them and all they know that Marc bolan was one of the most loved and technicians guitarists of the 70's. Never I considered the tyrannosaurus rex/ T rex like a Prog Band, even though have two compilations (a "Collection" and a Live EP with exibition to the BBC) and yet listen in "Ars Longa Vita Brevis" and relisten this compilation I found a lot of points in common with the Prog (I understand for how came understoon in the 70's). When they are acustic duo (Tyrannosaurus Rex) were a Folk Prog Rock Band. When electric (T Rex) had been a lot of Folk Art Rock (!). Certainty that more I think about it and more I find them Prog. Seen that on http://www.progarchives.com - www.progarchives.com there are band like the Fairport Convention and other a lot except a Prog (but not for how came understoon in the 70's) I believe that the Tyrannosaurus Rex/ T Rex and Mark Bolan be a group unjustly here is excluded.
