This is my response to the McLaughlin/Holdsworth debate. I`m a big fan of both old Jethro Tull and Focus. I think Thijs has an edge on Ian becuase of his formal music training. But I wish Thijs could have called this new incarnation of Focus "The Thijs van Leer Project" or "Thijs van Leer Band." Focus is not Focus without Akkerman. Just as Jethro Tull is not Tull without Martin Barre.

I don't usually vote for one or other instrumentalist. I really couldn't tell most of the times (in prog, of course: obviously there are some real hacksin other styles)

I find it interesting the debate of calling the new group "Focus". I don't like it, but we must realise that the sales can be dramaticaly affected. And this is something that's very needed in prog.

I can't find an excuse for another record with a Tubular Bell on the cover, though

Regards:

Paco

Ian Anderson.Bet Van Leer can't stand on one leg while playing the flute or look as good wearing a cod-peice

Agree that "classic" FOCUS - is Thijs with Akkermen, but it's very usual for late reunion. One of the past members can't or doesn't want to participate. Named project Focus is better for commercial succes, than it leads to possibility to record a new album. I don't find anything bad in this problem. Tull withou Barre? I think it can be

I think that every other member save for Ian Andersson could be replaced! Ian was the heart and soul of the Group. Excellent Perfomer...he would have been a fine minstrel!!  Of course i vote for Ian....oh...and what an accsent! (i killed that  )
