Subject: Petrucci food poisoned and DT concert !

I'm here to talk to you about my first concert. Luckily it was with Dream Theater (one of favorite and first prog band) and in there start of the 20th aniversary tour right here in Puerto Rico.

Right before I was going to the venue a news arrived about John Petrucci saying that he had been food poisoned and the concert was in danger of being cancelled.Nobody knew what really happened. One of my friends was waiting in a record store at noon for him to arrive ang give some autographs but he never camed and the owner of the store told him and the other hundreds of people what happened. I was extremly bumed out because I was waiting for them since the news came out in January 10. I heard the news at 3:00 pm and the concert was going to be at 8:30 pm. I was listening to the radio all day from that moment on and after 2 hours of desperation and glued to the radio it was clear that they where going to play no matter what.

I went to the city where they where playing and took the train (my first ride on a train too) because of the traffic. Then I entered the venue and It was completely full and I mean FULL. I sat down for a little while and there was Coheed & Cambria and Porcupine Tree playing but not for long ...

The music started to play really loud was the outro of Train of Thought and the started the intro of The root of all evil. When Portnoy started to play the drums the whole venue was going nuts. I'm not going to tell you all the songs but I will point out some of the best parts of the concert.

When they played Peruvian sky at the half of the song on the acoustic part they kind of changed slowly into another song and it was no other than the solo of Wish You Where Here and then at the last part of the song they changed into a Metallica song.

On the song Octavarium James LaBrie actually played the piano while Jordan Rudess played the lapsteel guitar! and it was a sight to see. Plus the song was excellently played.

I walk beside you may be the worst song in Octavarium but when you hear it live the magic of the song comes out and you forget of the U2 influence.

The last song was Pull me under but it really looked that Through her eyes was going to be the last one because at the end of Octavarium they whent away like in the Budokan video to play the last song and they did it too but they played two last songs. On Pull me under at almost 3/4 of the song they switched to Metropolis pt 1  and that was when the venue was going to fall apart!

I wont tell you more because I dont want to spoil all of things that are going to come for the people who get to see them before this show

So, what are your thoughts ?

wow- thanks for the post! Seeing them March 11th in San Francisco, so you KNOW they are going to cover Metallica! haha-

CANT WAIT!!

They always do cool stuff when I see them in SF- (example James and Mike doing a drum-off, or Rush and Journey covers, and so on.)

I'll give my review after the 11th!

I also forgot to mention was that from time to time in instrumental passages Petrucci played Myung's bass and Myung played Petrucci's guitar.

I'm getting so excited now because i'm seeing them in Asbury Park, NJ on March 26th and i'm also seeing them on their Grand Finale show in NYC on April 1st! I know that show's gonna be amazing, they're filming it for a DVD and it's their last show of the tour... they've gotta throw in something incredible!

I'll let you all know how it goes!

Well...

It was very good, the only bad ting was the pesime acustic of the stage, but the sound was ok, they only play 1:45 hours aprox (litle short that I spected) and they not play Metropolis P1 or A Change of Seasons but apart of that was realy good.

BTW: A friend that was in front of the stage take some pictures of the band, after he shared to me Im gonna shared they to you.

Setlist:

The Root of all Evil
Panic Atack
A fortune in Lies
Caught in a Web
Under a Glass Moon
Endles Sacrifice
Through my Words
Fatal Tragedy
I Walk Beside You
Octavarium
As I am
Pull me Under

I tink I forget one, anyway thats all.

It sounds like it was a good show concidering that they only played 1:45 hours. Mine was from 8:30pm thru 11:45 aprox. and I still wanted more.

Dude....you need help

And YOU need a thicker skin, and a sense of humour, "dude!"Stern Smile

"Petrucci food poisoned" (see thread title) -- that sounded a bit funny, to me.  So what if I made a joke about someone trying to poison DT?Confused

LIGHTEN UP! Say something funny back! Stern Smile

BTW, this Emoticon: indicates a joke, around here.

Yes meurglys my friend -- and the numbers of the humour-impaired seem to be growing.

No wonder all the metal musicians look so serious/pissed off in their photos....Wink <
