IMO these are the 10 essential prog bands (in order of best to worst IMO): Rush Jethro Tull Yes Genesis Van der Graaf Generator ELP Pink Floyd King Crimson Camel (haven't heard much, but like what I hear) Gentle Giant (see comments on Camel)
Anyway I think these ten bands should be the standard 'Big 10' as opposed to all these big threes and sixes. Put them in order of your preference.

Gentle Giant (0, only heard like 2-3 songs sound strange but good, but i must buy an album before i can realy say if i like it) 10. Camel (0, as far as i know i havent heard anything from em, i am not a prog veteran i have many band to discover yet, but im not in a hurry only 21 years old -------------

Best to worst, sticking to the "big 10" Camel Genesis (Hackett era) Gentle Giant Pink Floyd Jethro Tull Yes Rush ELP King Crimson VDGG The last 3 I really don't care for much. If I had free choice, 3 from Renaissance, Strawbs, Caravan and Gryphon would replace them. Mostly Autumn are better than most of these bands but aren't yet well enough known to be big 10 - yet! |

From the original list (minus Camel because I've never heard them) 1. Yes 2. King Crimson 3. Gentle Giant 4.Jethro Tull 5. Rush 6. Genesis 7. VDGG 8. ELP I don't even want to put Pink Floyd in as #9 because the bands on this list purport to be "progressive". I'm going to take this to mean the bands that I like the most to the bands that I hate the most (Best to worst): 1.) Kansas 2.) Yes 3.) Ayreon 4.) Rush 5.) Pink Floyd 6.) Genesis 7.) Uriah Heep 8.) Porcupine Tree 9.) ELP 10.)
