'A Certain Ratio' was   a Group formed by Simon Topping (vocals/trumpet), Jeremy Kerr (bass), Martin Moscrop (guitar) and Peter Terrell (electronics/loops). Initially a intense, drummerless quartet influenced by Kraftwerk and Wire, they released in 1980 their first album 'To Each', a mixture of heavy funk, industrial, electronics with Jazz elements. The record was produced by Martin Hannett and the vocals of Simon Topping sound sometimes like those of Ian Curtis (Joy Division), a little too drowned in echo for my taste. 'To each' is one of the more interesting records of the beginning of the 80's.

ACR is a great band. Seems we have strikingly similar tastes Martin.

I only have Early so far, but plan on getting more, especially the album you mention, which is suppossed to be one of, if not, their best releases.

I really loved the early stuff.Their version of Shack Up is fantastic. My favourite tracks by them are Do the Du,Knife Slits Water and the fantastic The Thin Boys.
I saw them twice within a week circa 1980-81.The support band were awful. They got the success that ACR deserved. The then little known support band were...Culture Club!!!

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.
