Ermm Max, is there any way to prevent those damned highlighted text "ads' from invading our posts and reviews? I didn't intend my review of Tangerine Dream's PHAEDRA to turn into an ad for headphones ! Angry

We can't even write "CD" or "electronics" any more, and, as I'm sure you know, this didn't happen before. ConfusedUnhappyDisapproveThumbs Down

I think that it cheapens our words, and the website! Ouch

Thoughts and/or help, Max and fellow members?

Hmmmm.... Just in case this is an intentional way for the site to generate advertising $$, my apologies -- but, if so, could it at least be kept out of the reviews?

Let's try: stereo components  mellotron  Fender  Compact Discs  DVD Movies  books  Paintings  amplifiers  mixers  turntables  Genesis  cables  satelite  speakers  Heat-Seeking Missiles  B52 Bombers....

when i'll take the decision to keep it or not...

Thanks

Ok, Bossman!Embarrassed

Still, I would prefer that it not to happen in the reviews, if at all.Ermm

Seems to be only music/stereo component-related, eh?

Another test: prescription drugs, medicine, generic drugs, new and used cars, motorcycles, peanut butter, ocean-front properties, cruises, vacations, marital aids, Telefunken U-47, brew your own beer, Viagra, Rogaine

Funny how my mind works....Wacko

Porn is next up on the slippery slope. Avoid typing stiff, hard, blow, stick, man, woman, doggie or about 5,000 other words with double meanings....  Ooops, I see a Bananas add right below.

Just joking. I really enjoy the annoying little boxes and ads and such. They make the festering sores on my chest seem more pleasant.

I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at that, Danbo....Confused

Wish more of the brethren would weigh in with an opinion....Stern Smile

" Their best CD, to play through the speakers & cables connected to your Morantz amplifier, if you don't have their DVD, is...."LOL

(I think we're too cynical/progressive for such overt suckhole, soul-less Corporate Capitalism!)

Still, baby needs new shoes,,,,Dead

I have noticed that now there is a slight delay when I go to a ProgArchives Web page, presumably for the software that generates the green hyperlinks to parse the text and find the keywords it's looking for. The delay is slightly annoying. I recently downloaded Windows XP Service Pack 2 and initially thought that it was the culprit, but I have a feeling it *is* the parsing by the 'green advertising' software.

Of course I would prefer the green hyperlinks not to be present. However, if MAX@ needs the cash to keep the site going then there's not much we can do, but I do agree that it would be better not to have them in the album reviews. The forums are perhaps not quite so important as a Prog reference (still useful, of course) but in my opinion the green advertising hyperlinks debase the reviews and the site somewhat, are slightly distracting, and the aforementioned delay a little annoying.

For me it's pretty straight forward. If it generates income for the site, and that income is required to keep it running, it's a no-brainer.

Yes, I'd rather they were not there, but I much prefer them to pop ups. The "intelligent" links, such as the google adds at the bottom of the forum pages can be quite amusing at times, as they take words completely out of context.

Max, There is a sub-section of the forum entitled "revenue model", but it doesn't seem to have been updated for some time. It might be an idea to update us all with details of this, and how we can help.

Angry

I thought Prog was all about not making money and it was disingenuous to suggest it would disappear without finance?

The revenue model thread describes the use of ads,but not this irritating pile ofCensoredDisapprove

Let the blood flow, let the blood flow.

Hope I dont get drowned by the tide of disapproval!

Tee Hee!

You are absolutely right except for one minor thing,

Yes the music would still be made, but if there's no money to distribute it, how could I have bought the albums I've come to love so dearly.

Oh by-the -way If there are means to generate income, please do and don't hesitate if it ensures the future for this site. It can even be fun, to write reviews not using the words cd,s, headphones etc. or try to add as much of these words as possible so you won't have to underline yourself.

I don't like them on the reviews either, they are very distracting.

But saying that ive got used to them on the forum and don't notice them so much then, so i guess i'm easily brainwashed

Excuse me, while I pull my tongue out of my cheek.

Not my arse, Petey-poo.

The ads are annoying, but the show must go on.

If it takes a bit of inconvienience to keep this ship afloat, you have my sword. Er, wood, no, no... a bit of pitch and some plugging materiel... maybe I could stick my finger in the dike, ahm hole, er just forget it...

No Idon't like them,

Yes, I'll put up with them if the alternative is no prog archives, albeit very begrudgingly.

I'll continue to NEVER click on them, and scowl at their intrusive presence.
