Ok i feel that it just so much negative stuff that is being said about artists that ye dislike so i think i would make a thread where you could all say POSITIVE things about artists you dont like very much! And please people be serious so dont write stuff like : They have quit making albums! I can scare people away with their music and stuff like that...try to be genuienly positivie!
ok i'll start with King Crimson which i dont favour very much but i do admire that they always cared about the MUSIC and not getting into any musical trends in the 80's and also that they still could make very different music spanning over many genres!

*grumbles* I'd better say something nice about Genesis then... I love the theatricality of their shows, and I have a great respect for Gabriel's showmanship, even if I don't think their music is up to much.

I thought it was kind of cool that Can had first an African-American
singer (Malcolm Mooney) and then a Japanese one (Damo Suzuki) ...
surely both are a first for a relatively well-known prog group ...
The stories about the relative instablity of both guys make me wonder about the Can dynamic ...

Gentle Giant
- very, very talented musicians
- excellent use of odd time-signatures
- consistent....released many succesfull albums from 1971 to 1978
Who knows, give me some time and maybe they'll become one of my favorites.

There are many artists I dislike musically that get my applauses to be engaged in humanitarian or environmental causes.
One example is Bono although I don't like him singing and U2 musical style.
P.S.: another thread could be "Negative things about artists you like" like Lennon & McCartney war that is very boring and still do not finish even 25 years after Lennon's death. I like both artists and feel angry about that stupid war.

Normally if I dislike a band there's little good left in their music...
- Asia - great musicianship and big songwriting potential
- Green day - They do have a certain talent for writing cheap pop songs.
- Cannibal Corpse - Maybe just that they can theoretically play well... but they never show it.
- Hilary Duff - well, she's hot...
- Linkin Park - nothing really
I just picked out the brightest or most sellout examples. I hate all punk, and strongly dislike death/nu metal and pop

Mick Hucknall of Simply Red...
Good music taste: blues and jazz
That's about it.
Mariah Carey...
Gets coverage on this forum... has a good voice I guess, not that I care one or the other for her or her songs.
Robbie Williams...
Got rejected by Fearne Cotton at Live8. Has a good stage presence.
Pete Doherty...
No, bad choice, can't think of a good thing to say about him.
Bez from Happy Mondays...
Played maracas.
Justin Timberlake...
I'm stuck again..., erm, no, no good things.

those people may have gone on to discover more pioneering, original and
challenging bands.

Yea, it's a matter of personal taste, I heard much of "classic" punk and can say that I hate it. Plus their attitude stinks and they put down and generalise prog much worse. An ingenious topic.
I always put down boring old Pink Floyd. But really, the wide-spread popularity of DSOTM had some kind of (minimally) positive effect on some bands music - bands that I do like. I see traces of DSOTM sequencing and segueways on Genesis The Lamb Lies Down Broadway.
The "needles and pins" ending of "Broadway Melody [...]" and then its transition to "Cuckoo Coccoon" is just one example. I also think "The Waiting Room" is Genesis emulating a Floyd-y sound.
I don't care for Pink Floyd music as a whole, but some of what they did was pioneering in some ways.

The good thing I can say about artists I don't like is... I think the only good thing that comes to mind is that they don't care about wether I like them or not. They don't even know about me. So, they keep recording many many things and I don't buy those things, and they keep not knowing about me, and then we're going to die and my foot is going to be on some weird flag of a weird country, and the population of that country will grow using hats, and placing fishtanks above the surface of the sea, so the fish inside can see the ocean, but will be forever separated from it. This paragraph was generated using random suburban contemporary poetry.

I'm not much for the neo-prog that came out in the eighties. Bands like Marillion don't do anything for me. I guess I'm greatful these bands kept the prog flag flying, though. So you could say I like this about a band such as Marillion.

Stop linking to that stupid thread, please . It didn't prove anything the first bajillion times and it still doesn't, except that there are lots of idiots in the world.
Anyways, I know it's a matter of personal taste, but you can't possibly
hate bands you haven't even heard of. That's just closed-mindedness any
way you look at it. You probably can't even name any punk bands beyond
The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, et al., so why bother saying you hate
them?

Maybe, you're right, but I don't think it holds much. DSOTM is a "different" type of album for PF, while TLLDOB music isn't much different (in composition) from previous album by Genesis.
And then, as I said, maybe you're right - as long as there's just one year of difference between them.
And them, IMHO, TLLDOB is *much* better than DSOTM.
