Hi,I´m new to this board. Posting that is..

Could someone who knows something about prog metal give me some bands to check out?

I´m really into emotionel vocal work and techical musicians so if you have some good ideas to check out let me know. I´m currently into POS, Opeth and tool and stuff like that.

And yes, I like DT too

Any help would be appreciated.

Surely you've heard of Symphony X and Vanden Plas.  These guys are in the Prog metal category.  How about Spock's Beard or Porcupine Tree?  No so much metal, but very good with some great hard rock moments.

PoS...Opeth...my favorite bands.
These fall in the same tier, and they can all be found on this site.

Agalloch - very emotional vocals, sometimes blackish, interesting instrumentation (cellos, trombones, deer antlers) in some songs

Arcturus - symphonic post-black metal, very theatrical vocals

Evergrey - melodic symphonic thrash metal? emotional...the singer is one of a kind

Green Carnation - melodic metal

Kamelot - symphonic metal

Orphaned Land - Isreali everything metal, if you liked POS's Be, you will piss yourself listening to Mabool.

Porcupine Tree - not so much metal as pyschodelic rock. Steven Wilson of this band produces Opeth albums.

(I left off some of my favorites, but I have really strange tastes.

Pagans mind, shadow gallery, vanden plas, Threshold, Tool, Dragonforce (they are primaily power metal but have prog metal leanings at times), Kamelot, Lost Horizon, Planet X, Star one, IQ, Ring of Fire. If you want more let me know.

Don't know if your into some of the more technical prog metal bands.  I find some of them to be the best.  For example:

                                 Zero Hour: Towers Of Avarice

                                 Fates warning:  A Pleasant Shade Of Grey

                                 OSI:  OSI

                                 Spiral Architect:  A Sceptic's Universe

                                 Dream Theater:  Scenes From A Memory

Heres some great melodic prog metal:

                                                       Threshold:  Hypothetical

                                                       Pain Of Salvation:  Remedy Lane

                                                       Dream Theater: Images And Words

                                                       Pantommind:  Shade Of Fate

                                                       Andromeda:  II=I borderline technical

                                                       John Arch:  A Twist Of Fate

                                                       Symphony X:  V ( Essential Neoclassical Prog Metal )

                                                       Riverside:  Out Of Myself ( Not really metal, but great )
