This must be difficult.
Which is the worst famous prog band?
Give names that are 'widely' known...
I can't find any at the moment... this is hard!
Maybe Queensryche of the last decade.......in terms of producing boring music

Alan Parson's Something, Ambrosia, The jon and Vangelis stuff, Manferd Mann's late albums, err... Ian ¿Gilan?... any album from those bands that are supposed to be progressive but end up as background music on the elevators...

Triumvirat is awesome.
I would say 3 men Genesis.....No, not Prog, we're not talking about POP.
Camel is boring but not bad at all.
I would say Jon & Vangelis..........Not Prog either, we're not talking about New Age
I can't find one, I see merits in most of them.

I cant think of any, like Ivan I can findgood points in all their works, as long as we stick to their prog works that is and forget the pop that some of the greats turned to.
Some of you guys are really closed minded about what is prog. I know that there are some of you that think that because a band takes some of its influence from the likes of Metallica it isnt prog. This is quite something from people that claim to be open minded.

Yes I agree, this song makes me want to vomit, but in order to be the worst famous Prog band ever, it has to be prog, and THREE MEN GENESIS IS POP, as simple as that.
Of course if you want to take the band as a whole, you can't ever consider the worst Prog band those guys who once released Supper's Ready, Musical Box, Can Utility and the Coastliners, Dancoing with the Moonlit Knight, etc, etc, etc.

As for the thread question... I can't really answer it. I don't really hate any

Dream Theatre... and all their metal followers

My choice for this is Emerson, Lake and Palmer. I could never hear any music from them. It was all Emerson mashing those keys. Should have called the band Emerson, Emerson and Emerson.

ELP for me. I have BSS and Pictures at an Exhibition and I just plain don't like keyboards/organs when played the way Emerson plays them. I want ethereal and supportive keyboards, not at the forefront.
Also, if the MP3s on this site are any indication of their overall musical output: Pain of Salvation
Opeth would be OK, but they're so depressing and I don't like growling vocals. ![](smileys/smiley11.gif)
All the other big ones: Rush, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Marillion...I all like very much. I could get into more bands that I like not so much, but this is a famous prog bands topic.

Hawkwind are pretty bad ... infact I like them lots because they are so crappy .. sometimes bad is good in a strange way , I mean how does an inventive creative mind know untill he gives its try ?

You listen to Rush the least but you got it twice in the list?

Prog Rock: Styx
Prog Metal: Tool
Styx I strongly dislike, so that was easy. I only own Lateralus
by Tool and it's pretty good, I'd give it 3/5 stars. Some other
popular Prog Metal bands are Dream Theater, Tool, Symphony X, Ayreon,
and Pain of Salvation, and I love them all except Tool who are alright.

I'd have to go with King Crimson....I love the Lake era albums, but I've never managed to truly enjoy the Wetton era.

I'll go with Marillion as well.
I don't really consider Styx to be prog.

Genesis, they're good, Firth of Fifth, Get em Out By Friday, and Supper's Ready are amazing. But the band is vastly overrated.

Would go with Radiohead........just think they are a modern band with a little more brains behind them than most of the drivel out there, but they are not prog, at all.
Also, even though I like Pendragon, I always think they pale in comparison to many of their contemporaries, simply coz Nick Barret's voice is just so amazingly 'average'...

reason is given.

Overrated; defintion for the purposes of this site only: Many people thinking that only certain songs are great, mainly because others had recommended it to them. They, in turn, recommend just those songs to newbies. Like a big, vicious cycle.

¡ Holly copy !, ¡ I forgot about Triumvirat !... But here's the thing: Eloy. They have a great album (Oceans); but the rest of their discography is just lame or uneven. I particulary dislike their first works; The power and the passion and else. Now, to be fare, I have to say that "Ocean" is an incredible exception; and the live album is not that bad; but I have a lot of eloy albums that I got hopping to see some kind of artistic growing from one to the other. I want my money back. Specially, I want the money I spent getting "Metromania". They are "Emule worthy". |
I'll buy all your Eloy collection. If you are willing to sell, pm me and we may cut a deal!
|
I don't like selling music. I would trade those records with you, but I fear I'm a little bit far away, and I don't have the albums anymore. I gave them to someone who actually likes Eloy, so I guess he's pretty happy now. Anyway, good luck getting them. I stick with the only one I like. They had their chance of becoming a great band, but the 80's ruined them.

So, what does that says about the way you talk about this (and the way you think about your special one`s). So rude...

Having said that, if ELP is into it, I'm interested. ¿Do you know were can I find them?.
