I'm just off to the all night garage for some pringles - and chocolate - and a packet of hob nobs - and a big bottle of dry ginger - and some wine gums - and a couple of blueberry muffins - and some of those lemon cheesecake bars. Oh, and a packet of Rizla king size.

What was the question again?

It might do all that for you,but it really messes up your reflexes and reaction time.

When I got high as a teenager I used to tape myself practicing drums and would play high and think I was doing great, then listen to it later on when I was straight and realized how much my playing was off.

My dad used to be in a jazz band with a tromboneist that would play high and he, apparently, thought that he was at his creative peak and producing fantastic stuff when he was high when he was actually rather crap.

^ I completely agree... But ... it is clear that even a person like that taking drugs will have a even wider imagination... It is proved. on weed, you can see your imaginations so clearly, close your eyes and see imagery... same with music, same with drawing, it brings you to this creative section of your brain.

I dont wanna sound pro-drugs, there are obviously bad sides to drugs. Just dont abuse and smoke when going to school or anything... but some one who consumes when he has time and nothing on his mind. well, actually I am convinced that he will widen his intelligence, by having new experiences.

You can cut and paste it:

PA:  What are your views on drugs?

DG:  If you have a small mind they seem to help you get access to the parts you have shut down. It’s like a shortcut to a visionary state that you can reach anyway if you just let go of your mental limitations put there after years and years in this world.  If your mind is already large they will just help you shut down other parts of it.  Let’s say they are a shortcut to a place to which you will never find a proper way if you use them.  Usually, when a mediocre artist starts doing drugs, they will in fact produce one or two interesting albums, more open-minded than their previous work, then they will just turn sour and never do anything as good again.  At least, that’s my impression.  I don’t go near them.  I have struggled through dense vegetation to find that place anyway, and that journey has done me good.

Actually. yea, we can all access these altered mind states naturally... by meditation techniques, or transe states, etc... But, please is there a non-stoner here who does that?  Theres those tibetan people... yea...    But other than that... A PORTION of peopple who go in drugs are already super smart and wanna find out MORE about the universe... and what better way then ingesting a plant that can make you access that information... and what makes you say stoners dont meditate or anything once in a while to obtaint it naturally... Its more about the desire of someone to obtain such altered mind state. I completely disagree with "people with small minds use them." Its probably the wisest people who realize. hek drugs arent bad... what is the meaning of "bad" anyways on this planet. we dont even KNOW the damn meaning of life. why give ourselves limits...

I think he was generally speaking.  I'm sure some people use marijuana to expand their minds and stuff like you mentioned, but that number is quite small.  If you are naturally creative, then why bother using a drug?

Drugs aren't "bad" but they can mess people up both mentally and physically.  I don't think marijuana is bad at all physically, and I'm not even sure why it's illegal, but it can mentally cripple users and force them to become almost dependent on the drug to have a good time (similar to alcohol).

Yea i completely agree. If you wanna adventure into drugs. first: have a goal... and dont take it as a way to have "fun"... take it "spiritually". bless it! and you are right... sadly there arent many people who take drugs this way... Finally, drugs can be bad, and they can be good. depending on your purpose.

Have you listened to the song "The End" from the doors. It's an amazing track IMO but surely a result of being alone in the desert talking LSD.

I believe that certain drugs give you a connection to the source - call it the planet, god, the other side, whatever.

I also believe certain drugs close those doors and turn you into an arrogant t**ser.

This is the only thing I will dispute. It most certainly DOES NOT force anyone to become dependant, and it hasn't crippled me in the slightest.

People who already have mental issues without drugs though, they should steer well clear, and this includes the religious folk.

Only tried hash once. It was Amsterdam, after all.

I guess I never tried stuff because the drug heads in highschool were idiots.

I don't drink much because if I do, I am hung over for two or three days.

Besides, coffee messes me up. I find chocolate irresistable. I can't resist certain foods. There's no way I'd escape anything remotely addictive.

I have a talent for messing up people's minds by spinning their own logic or just doing things I know will keep them ill at ease... do you really want to give me anything else?

My opinion!

I've never taken drugs and I won't take them in the future!

I can't accept all you saying "I never did drugs, I don't need that, I prefer music"... How the hell can pretend that when you know what the effects are? I'm sorry, that's just over me. I can go with someone saying he doesn't like drugs, or just think music better, but he has to at least have done it once to have an unbiaised opinion...

Tried weed once, about 13 years ago...
and did it again only 29 895 times

Good call on the Kinky Friedman quote.

I have a love/hate relationship with drugs, marijauna in particular. Yes, I smoke it every so often - about once a month (though more in the summer and less in the winter, but this is an average).

I've since been able to access the parts of my mind I've accessed through marijauna through focused meditation, though it takes a longer time to get in that state and it's much easier to break out of it. The thing about marijauna is it forces you into that state until the effects wear off, whereas it's much harder to attain such a state through meditation. However, when I have found myself within said state, it's far more intense than anytime while I was high. According to some Buddhist traditions, it's actually just a mere step to enlightenment. So if you smoke pot often, you're really just cheating yourself by thinking you have found the highest state of being when it's really just the gateway to even better states.

That being said, I still smoke pot occassionally because it's fun. I'm not looking to attain higher states of being with marijuana because I realize that I won't. The function of marijauna to me, at this point, is simply to indulge a little - just like one eats junk food, drinks alcohol, or engages in other uneccessary but enjoyable activities. Perhaps it might be better for me to stop, but I doubt it can do any amount of damage that will seriously destroy my abilities/talents.

Oh, and making music while high is fun but sounds like crap. Everyone knows that. I prefer to make music while I'm sober, because it's plain that it's better.

"I'm not looking to attain higher states of being with marijuana because I realize that I won't"

You can say it's artificial, but the fact is that you're in a higher level of consciousness.

And what's interesting is that you become aware of the
terrible "ordinary" state of mind.

That's what our french writter poet Charles Duits wrote in substance about his Peyotl experience:

"I was expecting dreams, illusions, like the Beaudelaire descriptions, and instead, the Peyotl revealed me reality, the land of real".
That's why he renamed "Hallucinogens" : "Lucidogens".

In the end, you won't attain a higher state of mind with Marijuana.

Though it boosts you to the preliminary levels, you find yourself unable to progress higher if you use marijauna to certain degrees.

The only reason I still do it occasionally is because it's a tad bit different than just meditating, since you can't be distracted from your state as easily. That's fun, and in my opinion, is harmless if I only do it once in a while (which is less than once a month these days).

Weed is neutral IMO.
It only exagerates your initial state of mind.
It can increases your thought flow as it can help you to reach inner silence.

For me, weed can be a very liberating experience, I find that it helps get my mind out of ruts, that is, usual ways of thinking that I don't question any longer. Weed helps me respond slightly differently, usually with more good humor and intellectual curiosity, than if I'm just having a regular day, tuning out most of the phenomena around me, thinking of the usual stuff.

I agree with the earlier post that pot needs to be used sparingly, like once or a month or so, in order for its effects to be most appreciated. And that's the hard part for me sometimes, to not obsess about it and think about doing it. I try to forget that I even have it around.

I used to think I had to be high or drunk to fully appreciate good music,  but now that Im clean and sober music sounds better than ever. And I find my tastes in music are more refined.  Not much Sabbath and Zeppelin these days, more Bach and Mozart LOL. Actually pot just makes me depressed and paranoid anymore. Im too old for that sh*t hehe.
