I would look no further than GFT-Cyclops...

http://www.gft-cyclops.co.uk/gft/gftframe.html - http://www.gft-cyclops.co.uk/gft/gftframe.html

I've used them a few times, and they are fast, efficient, cheap and friendly - all the things that Amazon are not

The only problem I have had is getting the packaging off, as they do tend to pack it well.

Mellotronen are also pretty good if you don't mind converting into Swedish Krone.

http://www.btf.it - www.btf.it - very good online store.

They have a great amount of Italian progrock titles. They also have:

- some prog releases from other countries;

- Italian singers and songwriters;

- books about Italian musicians (for example, "The Return Of Italian Pop" by Paolo Barotto is a good giude through Italian progrock, it contains description of 249 bands and 87 solo artists).

Progwalhalla is good! Not only for the Dutch. Outside the Netherlands you can order too.

Best of 2006 that I've heard:
PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione
Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album)
Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific
2007:
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo

As a side note:

Amazon and similar retailers are fine stores, but I think as fans of this underappreciated genre called prog, we should try to buy from the specialty stores, not the big chains - even if the prices are a dollar (or a Euro) more, because it helps keep the prog stores alive and running which will encourage them to get more CDs and even afford to lower their rates. Support your online progressive rock specialty stores!

Good point.

In that vein, I recommend Laser's Edge ( http://www.lasercd.com - www.lasercd.com ).  I don't know if they ship to Europe or not, but here in the US, the prices are great and the service is excellent and personal.

Besides that, Ken Golden, the owner, is also involved in a number of projects that include signing prog bands, releasing new prog material, and resurrecting old and forgotten prog gems.  Definitely a worthwhile outfit to spend your hard earned money as the profits seem to go right back to making prog better.

PS - I'm not related to Ken, nor do I have any affiliation with the Laser's Edge.

My comments on Amazon were based on a increasingly shoddy service. Too many times recently I have ordered something on 24hr turnaround, to find the next day it is on 1-2 weeks or longer. This happened with the Riverside album not so long ago, and has happened frequently with games - so much so that I have cancelled orders. There is no easy way of contacting them either. When I had a query with my GFT order, I spoke to the guy direct, had a very friendly chat and all was sorted.

I also resent these utterly stupid, non-related ads that Amazon are now popping up everywhere. Again, when I went to look at Riverside, I was told I may also be interested in other "Riverside" products such as Riverside apartments in New York. Like, yeah - right! Just go onto Amazon.co.uk and click through to "In a Glass House" by GG to see what I mean - it is totally ridiculous! I was also  told I could sell some of the recent goods I had ordered before I had even received them!

They used to be good, but I think they have lost their way recently.

Sorry - rant over - I'll still use them for mainstream stuff, but for prog give me GFT anyday!

A few months ago I advised http://www.progwalhalla.com - www.progwalhalla.com to Moogtron, he has just posted his very positive experience!

I review cd's and dvd's for that site, it has an English version (with all my 600 prog archives reviews) and a Dutch version with specials from me about the UK, Japan, Italy, Argentina and 35 years of progrock.

By the way, I don't have commercial benefits from Progwalhalla, I support this site because it's so progrock friendly!

Recently I have stopped buying CDs online because I have found many shops here that sell prog at good prices and I would rather go into a shop and get it in my hands straightaway than wait for it to come by mail and pay the postage. Well I guess I'm just lucky to have such a good selection of CD shops here.

Congratulations to the Greeks for having such a good taste in music.
