Hey whats up guys. I recently got into progressive rock about a year ago. My first progressive rock CD was Rush's 2112 and I really liked it a lot.I kept buying new Rush CDs and now I have most of them. From there I learned about Dream Theater and I have most of their albums also. Recently I purchased Porcupine Tree's CD Deadwing. The CD really was chilling with Steven Wilsons lyrics and was a strange purchase for me. The CD took awhile for me to get in to but my favorite tracks are Deadwing, Lazarus, Shallow, and the best song on the CD, in my opinion, the secret track Shesmovedon. But from here I really discovered that I like the more progressive metal side of progressive rock like Dream Theater's song This Dying Soul but anything much heavier than that wouldn't be a real interest to me. I have heard slipknot and hatebreed and I really don't like their music because it is really just too heavy and kind of mindless. Could anyone point me in the right direction for another progressive metal band?

Thanks A Lot

Hi!
I would recommend Pain Of Salvation. Their "Remedy Lane" is just excellent...

Here are a few recommendations:

Age of Silence

Ayreon  (The Electric Castle, The Human Equation)

Adagio

Dead Soul Tribe  (A Murder Of Crows)

Lethargy

Leviathan

Mastermind

Mayadome

Psychotic Waltz

Redemption

Spastic Ink

Zero Hour

I suggest you read about them in metal sites mainly because not all are in PA. Look here for example - http://www.bnrmetal.com - www.bnrmetal.com and see which albums are recommended. If you want to, I could recommend specific albums or more bands. Have fun

whoho im not very into really heavy music either but you could try:

Ayreon-The Human Equation-Fantastic! My favourite ayreon cd!

Fantomas-The directors cut-If you are into more experimental stuff there is not that is better than this.

Opeth-Ghost reveries-Well it has growls and stuff, but you get used to it and the music is not really heavy either and it is perhaps the next best prog metal album after octavarium...the opening track is amazing.

Tool-lateralus-Great album and was awarded the best album of 2001 price

Or you could try Iron Maiden-Brave new world if you have not allready  really the most progressive album ever released by maiden and really great.

And although i cant reccomend them myself fans of DT generally likes Pain of salvation, Shadow gallery and Symhony X so you might try out those bands as well

Bye then and i hope ya find something interesting

You're not very far from there right now if I recall the bands you love/listen to.
