Can anyone out there in Prog Archives Land give me the low down on IEM (Incredible Expanding Mindfark)? I've only just heard of them today.

You know, I just got into Porcupine Tree in late 2004, and the thing that still amazes me most is how incredibly prolific a musician Steven Wilson is. Does the guy even stop to eat??

Ive only heard the first album, apparently S. Wilson plays everything himself.  The music sort of concentrates on creating moods and atmospheres and can be very ambient (think the ambient passages of Porcupine Tree) but more minimalist than PT and when they're not ambient they're quite hypnotic and repetetive but in a good way.  Given that description its not as synthetic as it sounds, the textures are quite warm and organic and real drums/ bass are used.

Think a very stripped down Ozric Tentacles.

I have heard of that project but never actually heard it.

I love PT and think Steven Wilson is a musical genius.Some of his other projects are Bass Communion,No-Man and the EXCELLENT Blackfield.

Yep, I'm a big PT fan too. After getting into them in late '04, it didn't take me long to discover how many fingers Wilson had in other pies. In addition to most of the PT catalogue, over the past year I've also picked up 3 no-man discs, the Blackfield CD (brilliant), and some Bass Communion stuff.

I was lucky enough to see PT when they played Glasgow earlier this year, and will be going to see them again when they return next month.

What I'm saying is DESPITE being fairly heavily into Wilson's music, I'm still being surprised by projects surfacing which I knew absolutely nothing about! However, I suppose if the guy has a 213 page discography  , it shouldn't come as too much of a shock!

I saw them last month in Washington DC for the first time despite being into them for like 8-9 years,and they were great.

There is talk of a project involving Wilson,Mikael Akerfeldt and Mike Portnoy..THAT is the one I am looking forward to!!!
