A very simple poll. Four songs from four bands 1989 studios albums of similar length, choose one or two that you like if you like any of them.

Cardiacs - Mare's Nest (4:15)

Dream Theater - Status Seeker (4:17)

Rush - Hand Over Fist (4:17)

Swans - God Damn the Sun (4:22)

-------------
"Questions are a burden to others; answers a prison for oneself" (The Prisoner, 1967).

Yes, I actually voted for a Dream Theater song over a Rush song!

1989 is such a tough year for me, as this poll confirms.
I went with Rush, but you know, kind of by default.
One track I do really like from 1989 is "Hymn For The Hardcore"(4:15) from "Fool Moon" by AMON DUUL(UK).

-------------
"The wind is slowly tearing her apart"

"Sad Rain" ANEKDOTEN

So I listened to them all and Dream Theater - Status Seeker I liked the most.

Interesting that no one yet likes the Swans, and it seems that no one has opted for two options. The Burning World, which it is off, is a lowly regarded album commonly, but I like that track and enjoy the album more than most. Still, it's my bottom Swans album from 1987 until now, as is usual in charts. That said, "Mare's Nest" is my favourite on the list and is off a more highly regarded album in the bands' discographies than the other three.

Forgot to mention before... Thank you Andrew for taking the time.

It's not one of Rush's greatest classics (or DT's). Next up I team that Dream Theater song with Tangerine Dream for a TD vs DT battle royale.

Just listened, I love Hymn (gotta be careful who I say that too, the meaning might be misunderstood).

I see that was released ona 1987 compilation album,, and I think it's a much earlier previously unreleased track (so like an archival release of a song).

If I had just been going with favourites then Thinking Plague's "Lycanthrope" would have been in the poll.

Make it really interesting and grab a couple tracks from late '90s albums.

Status Seeker - love that first DT album!

1989 was a great year for music, one of my favourites. I might do an 1989 poll, but it will probably have to be out of the prog section….
