Probably very important for the development of Soft Machine, but not so much in the focus of attention. I guess there is some more personal information about him around that I don't have, but to me he seems to be somebody who is really only known through the music, and maybe that was all that counted for him.  RIP!

| Very sad loss and surprised it has not produced much of a reaction here. I never got to see him live, by the time I bought my first Soft Machine album, Ratledge had finally left the band. I suggest fans head to the Soft Machine website and see the tributes there. If you are curious about his legacy, those first three Soft Machine albums are classics. |

To me one of the greatest '60's innovators of keyboard and synthesizer playing. I will always remember you as a member of one of the greatest late 60's progressive bands
