The Beatles seem to be quite popular around here, but how about Rolling Stones, any fans? Not that I exactly am one myself, but I like quite a few of their songs and the albums Sticky Fingers and Their Satanic Majesties Request ------------- quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond |

I love the Stones right up through Tattoo You, when they were still a relevant creative entity known as a real band. From the late 80s on, they are essentially a Vegas-style cover band of themselves, as many legacy acts get to be in their late years. ------------- ...that moment you realize you like "Mob Rules" better than "Heaven and Hell" |

Marvellous band. They made some great singles/albums in the 60's in particular. 'Exile On Main Street' from 1972 is probably my most played album by them. Very fond of 'Goat's Head Soup', and 'Some Girls' as well. I'm not so keen on some of the mid to late 80's albums though.

While I would not describe myself as someone who gets my rocks off with the Stones, I do I like the late 60s period, and I have liked all three of these albums very much (especially when I was in my late teens): 1. Let It Bleed 2. Beggars Banquet 3. Their Satanic Majesties Request And lots of great songs, still not tired of "Paint It Black". Big fan of HBO's Westworld, and here is a well-known scene featuring the music. |

There's disposable material on each of these albums imo. But like with The Beatles, I tend to rate these 1960's Stones' flawed classics higher than the sum of it's parts. Outside of my number one, which I know by heart, I'm quite certain I'll never ever listen to any of my top five in full again. Stones in general are not about albums, for me. But their highs are so high. Their Satanic Majesties Request (1967) 4,5 stars Beggars Banquet (1968) 4 stars Let It Bleed (1969) 4 stars Aftermath (1966)* 3,5 stars Between the Buttons (1967)** 3,5 stars * & ** - I "accidently", but luckily got familiar with the US versions of these two. Which means that Paint it, Black has always opened Aftermath (unfortunately leaving out Mothers Little Helper), and Between the Buttons kicks off things with the duo of Let's Spend the Night Together and Ruby Tuesday... I'll take the totally lightweight, disco flirting Emotional Rescue over both Sticky Fingers (which does feature a couple of solid tunes) and especially the godawful Exile on Main St. Blues Rock, Country Rock, Roots Rock = not my bag at all. Exile sound like the birth of Pub Rock to me. I'd rather listen to German Schlagers or Eurodance... or a dental drill. |

I would tend to agree but stop at Some Girls... and the only exception to later albums would be the much maligned Dirty Work, which I still own the vinyl. FTM, I think I only own vinyls of theirs (no CD) and I mostly own compilations like Hot Rocks, Made in The Shade, Sucking in the 70's. And two live albums: Yayas Out and LLL (El Mocambo was THE place to be in Toronto back then).

Sure. I even enjoyed UnderCover of the Night when it'd pop on the radio....but as an album the pickins' had gotten a bit thin. Good to see you, Hugues.

I first heard The Rolling Stones in 1965. I began collecting their 45rpms until eventually buying the LP's. They were DARK for the times! Not many bands had a doomsday look . The Rolling Stones were one of the first bands to do that which influenced quite a lot of American bands in the 60s to have a rough look ...Paul Revere & The Raiders, MC5, and others. When I discovered the Stones there wasn't a Mick Jagger throwing buckets of water on the crowd ..or releasing balloons...and running up and down the stage. Mick Jagger in the early days danced behind a microphone stand and shook a tambourine. Their album covers were DARK for the times. They appeared on the cover of December's Children sitting on steps or alleyway. They often wore dark jackets and looked disturbed or angered. They rarely smiled. They had a Punk vibe sometimes. 12 × 5 , Out Of Our Heads, Now!, Aftermath, and Between The Buttons presented them in a dark way. A much darker image than other bands of those times . Often dressed in black jackets standing off in the distance...or in the fog...or an alleyway..?? Would you let your daughter date a Rolling Stone? They offended the old school generation for sure. I recall seeing a Pic of the band pushing a baby carriage off a cliff ..I believe?? Which was dark for those times. A few times they dressed in drag. Probably around the time of "Stupid Girl" and American parents didn't handle that well. Brian Jones played a variety of instruments which brought a unique sound to their music. "Paint It Black" , "Get Off My Cloud", "19th Nervous Breakdown" , Mother's Little Helper" were odd for the times. The lyrics and the music. |

The Rolling Stones are a great band, but I'm not surprised that the Beatles receive more acclaim here. Speaking for myself, I like most of the Beatles and some of the Stones. -------------

Overplayed even on prog radio in the 70s, the Stones got on my nerves back then, especially certain songs that went on way too long like "You can't always get what you want" and "Gimme Shelter", but now I acknowledge they have some great songs, quite a few actually, and I would choose to hear Stones over Beatles in general. More oomph. I don't really know their albums though. Some of my fave tracks are Satisfaction Baby Jane (is that right?) Angie Wild Horses Miss You Ruby Tuesday Beast of Burden Brown Sugar Paint it Black

I prefer the Beatles but I really like the Stones. Let it Bleed, Beggars Banquet and Sticky Fingers are my favorite but I really enjoy Aftermath, Exile on Main Street and Their Satanic Majesties Request too. ------------- I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place |

If we take away the glitz and glamour surrounding them, I would describe them as musically a pub-rock band of songs rather than an album band. So, my favourite 7-inch single by The Rolling Stones actually comes from the nowadays underrated, yet musically eclectic and great album Black and Blue. |

I see where you're going, but Satanic feels forced, IMHO. They thought they had top answer Sgt Pepper, but it's not "THEM". As for SF, there is a fair bit of country rock in there, but it's still mainstream rock ------------- let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

The Stones have been with me for the whole of my six decades on the planet. The shelf is groaning with the Stones collection and I recommend 'em all, but if I needed a Stones fix right now, I'd go to the B side of Goat's Head Soup. And don't count out the early albums.....really any of 'em are a gas. Gritty, rootsy, dirty blues - Brian was a motherhumper (before the Glimmer Twins nudged him out). ------------- I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there..... |

When the Beatles landed at JFK airport I was age 8. You could say because I was a kid during Beatlemania that it just felt magnified ...however...I recall most kids in school buying Beatles records. The Lennon/McCartney song writing team proved to be a huge selling point for the industry. Many British Invasion bands had similarities to the Beatles sound/style. The Rolling Stones and The Kinks did not sound like each other nor did they outright imitate the Beatles...EXCEPT..for a few songs here and there both bands presented their individuality and not so much a Beatles copy. "19th Nervous Breakdown" was strange lyrically in 65' and that influenced people to be curious over its lyrical content. British Invasion was perpetuated with the hair style and teeny bop songs. Herman's Hermits, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Freddie And The Dreamers, The Dave Clark Five, were all Beatles imitation in some way...though DC5 differed because of the saxophone technically they were writing songs with a Beatles-esque vibe such as "Because", "Catch Us If You Can" "Can't You See That She's Mine".." Over And Over" Bands like The Zombies and The Hollies had a unique style of their own...but several British Invasion bands were proliferate product. |

I love The Hollies, but I love The Monkees too. And like The Monkees I don't think any of their biggest hits were crated by the band themselves. There's a huge differnce between having both written and recorded She's Not There and Time of the Season (or the whole Odessey & Oracle album) - compared to having Graham Goulding handing you Bus Stop and Look Through Any Window. -I don't mean to be overtly negative to The Hollies. I just think that talent-or "stylewise, they don't belong in the same ballpark as The Zombies. |
