Hey, hoping some people might be be able to help by posting any albums that sound quite unique, original, innovative and/or experimental from this year (or just don't sound the same as other bands). They need not be in PA, heck this year is still being populated with albums and generic Prog tends to lack in originality, but it should be "progressive". For me, my music, even if considered experimental is often not that original and I commonly like music that references earlier eras. That can be done in a unique way, but I do care more about the "sound" that pleases my ears, and I have no problem with retro if done well and drawing on styles and influenced by music I like.... Anyway, putting my preferences and boorish attitudes aside.... I actually can think of some very unique to my collection sounding/seeming albums from past years, but none from this year is striking me as particularly relevant to the issue. Thanks guys. Hope this might help some. Mike, that Greep album did occur to me. It is one of my top albums of the year and while some of it does sound very black midi-typical (I love black midi and that band has uniqueness) some of it does have its own unique melange, and it certainly does sound uniquely Geordie. Good choice methinks. It's quite an eclectic album. By the, while I know "Holy Holy" has been a popular fave from him, it wasn't one that particularly got me, until now! I love that live video. It all feels so vibrant and great. Such a talented young man and musicians with him. Another Greek band, yet female-fronted and synth-free this time.
The peculiar thing about this suggestion is that although there is
nothing particularly novel or different about it, the fact is that it

In terms of unique sounds I had many a Forrest Gump moment (been there, done/seen that) in my 40+ years of listening to music. When I hear "unique" I do not immediately think of avant/experimental, but something "really" unique. The Greep album qualifies for me since while it sound much like black midi in some aspects, it really goes much further than expected into the Brazilian sound. Another one I found interesting, probably not that unique in general but since I haven't explored it that much, is the "Prog Americana" vibe here:

It's one of those albums that needs to be heard from start to finish as it was intended. Not for everyone I suppose.. I got a "Krautrock, Grails, Killing Joke" feel from it overall. All stuff I really like on most days. I just hope they dont rely on AI for some of the scapes and drones. If it does, well it's a cool listen anyhow. Since I love Can, Krautrock and Post-Rock I actually was familiar with the same already but had not checked it out yet. Mein gott, instant bliss! Wow. I wasn't thinking of recommendations for me really here, but this is amazing and will want to be checking out lots. By the way, I have noticed that with a lot of my favourite music, Krautrock is an influence. And yes, this wants to be played right through.
