Greetings, Forum! Here comes the second installment in these poll series, this time dedicated to heavy progressive music from the year 2001. A pretty good year for this kind of music, as one can see from the poll entries, perhaps even stronger than 2000 which by the way seems to be won by Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun (I have a feeling PT might win several of these).

In any case, feel free to cast your vote and tell us who and why you voted for. If there are any favorite albums of yours that come to mind and have been omitted from this poll limited to just ten options, also feel free to share them! Let's see how this one will turn out. Star

Too easy....a brilliant album, and the cover art is spooky awesome!

Really good choices, I'm going with Terria instead of Blackwater Park, just because Ghost Reveries was even better.

But how about this gem from 2001?

One of my favorites as well, a shame the band was so short-lived.

The only album I currently know in the poll is Opeth's Blackwater Park, but I'm not a fan of the honey monster vocals, so it's a Hypothetical vote for Threshold instead. Smile

Listening to it now ... it has aged really well, does not sound dated at all. Preferable to comparable contemporary acts like Sons of Apollo or Whom Gods Destroy IMHO. Simply feels more inspired.

Stunningly good album, Gents...

Why would it sound dated?! Confused

^^ well, a lot of music from as long ago as the turn of the century can sound like you can pinpoint the era it was made... some music can sound more contemporary. I haven't heard either Ark album in a few years now, but I wouldn't be surprised by this observation partly because it was so distinct; didn't sound quite like anything else?

That's not enough reason. An album getting old does not instantly mean it is outdated.
With this idea, someone would think music, fiction and movies from the past are not worthy at all.

My to three from your list:
Green Carnaton
Tool
Katatonia

I also want to mention Anathema's A Fine Day To Exit and also Present's High In Fidelity which I know is avant but it's heavy in it's own way.

"Sad Rain" ANEKDOTEN

Fine choices! I was tempted to include Anathema but felt it might not be as heavy as the rest in the poll. (On a side note, my vote goes to Katatonia)

Nice pick! My second favourite on here. Maybe one day I'll get to it, but I have this old box set called The Black Sessions by Katatonia I hope one day to get to. And I agree with your reason for not including Anathema when your limited to ten. Just wanted to mention it.

So it's Opeth leading the way here... Let's see if this poll could get some more votes and if things turn around. Tongue
