I think all are quite excellent, but voted for VDGG.

I'd be surprised if anyone votes for anything other than VDGG in this poll. Smile

Being a fan from the beginning ( approximately :-) ), my vote will go to PH even if TlwcdiWteO is qualitatively the first major band's opus.
The rest (Banton, Jackson, Long hello II) is not anecdotal and deserves the respect of listeners whether they like this dark star of the prog galaxy or not.

^^Wrong? So he isn't surprised?

-I voted for the obvious choice, but the highlights on Hammill's second solo are as great as anything on VdGG's second (but I find Chameleon... to be a little uneven)

Until recently, I didn't know Hugh Banton had recorded any solo albums, or that The Long Hello II, III and IV even existed, so it was worth running this series of polls just to discover them and hear them for the first time, even if no one votes for them. Smile

Banton and Jackson started their 'solo' respective career' very lately ( If i'm well informed)

Banton first solo is his interpretation of the 'Goldberg variations' in 2003

The first time that Jackson left the orbit of the VDGG asteroid is in 1974 (during VDGG 1972/1975 hiatus). A collaboration with the german band called "Nine days wonder" ( 1974 LP 'Only the dancers', ... the one with the dancing toothbrushes) ...

but I do not claim to be exhaustive.

Van der Graaf Generator's The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other is a particular favourite VdGG album of mine, but I also do find very good music on Peter Hammill's Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night. I'm not very familiar with the other options.

A coincidental pun as I'd never heard of Peter Hammill's Out of Water before. Smile
