Subject: 25 "L" List Acts

Lobster Newberg (just been too long since I last listened), and what would have been a popular choice, Locanda Delle Fate, were on my list that I edited to 25. I listened again to music off LDL and realise why I went off it long ago and was never much of a fan. To me it is saccharine, sounds too polished instrumentally, and it is not one of my favourite singers. But I know many love it, bless them.

One might say that the 25 I listed just mean more to me now than other Ls that I recalled.

Kirstin Hayter is sometimes known as Lingua Ignota, but being a reference to a term (it means unknown language in Latin), I prefer it under I than L. Dear Laika, which is Isabelle Thorn's project, should have been under D for her project or later for T under her real name, but I wanted to include her now. Dear Laika is not in PA, but definitely is progressive, and I could compare to Uboa who has been in for some time.

Various of these are not in PA. I thought L'Rain (which I think better under L than R despite the article(ness) of L') was not in PA (and no doubt it wasn't and then it was), but I see it has been added.

Mica Levi is not in PA, and while experimental and some music could fit, I would not expect this soundtrack composer to be in. Lyman made some great early exotica, and I would not expect him to be in PA. The Lounge Lizards are not, although musically related I would say. Claude Lombard is not, but she has psych pop attributes. Love musically would fit Proto-Prog well, I think, as a great and influential psych band. Love is under my Prog umbrella. Sven Libaek is not, nor is Low. And Lambchop is not in PA, if it bothers you that I would add Lambchop to a poll in the Prog section, I say, "Baaaaahhhh, humbug".

Again, vote for three in the poll, or more or less, and please mention those, and I encourage people to mention what they like that is not in the poll. It's not a contest and the 25 I listed simply are 25 that I have enjoyed.

And if you are really confident that I should have added something that I did not to the poll, give me 'L for it.

I struggle with 'L' to be honest..

Landmarq were good; liked the late Tracey Hitchings era..

Landberk were good enough, but didn't set my world alight...

Luna Rossa are good, but prefer Panic Room.

Lifesigns are a bit meh; probably should try harder to like them but probably won't.

LTE... impressive, but overall too much w**kery for me to enjoy a full album.

Lemur Voice had potential, then disappeared....

and I'm not voting for Led Zep... you can forget it!  Big smile

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I used to listen to her self titled 1969 album quite a bit. But it's been a while. I never knew she had released more than one albums + tons of singles/EP's. Lots of childrens music but not all.

Le Orme (The Footsteps) is a favourite of mine, and I planned to put it under O due to the "Le" article. L'Rain is in this poll, but then I was not sure if that need be taken as an article in that case.

I keep forgetting "le" is a definite article. Smile

^ Sorry, I can't quite resist.

From Doctor Who with Tom Baker.

"I'm the Doctor."
"No, Doctor, I'm the doctor and I say that you're not fit."
"You may be a doctor, but I am THE Doctor, the definite article you might say."

^ Doctor Who takes the Eurostar transporter. Tongue

Doctor Who: "What will the time be when the transporter arrives at it's destination?"
Ticket Seller: "12:45"
Doctor Who: "1245. A wonderful year! I should be just in time for the Battle of Preston".

^ I'd love to have seen hard man Christopher Eccleston's Doctor Who grabbing hold of a Dalek by its sink plunger and kicking it over with his Doc Marten boots. Tongue

^ that would be Ace. Doc martin could help out. We did see Eccleston getting very pissed with a Dalek anyway.

-----------------------

For my L vote, I go with Leila (a companion to Tom Baker's Doctor).

Seriously my votes are: Lingua Ignota, Dear Laika, and... Tough to choose between Franco Leprino and Perry Leopold, so much like in The Running Man when an audience member was unsure between Buzzsaw and Dynamo, I'm getting both.

^ Worth checking out.

In my early list I just covered stuff mostly thta I have been into recently, and then I tried to put more thought into them. M is quite a magnificent letter for music and so I have many Ms to choose 25 from. And this being by own choices, it lacks very popular ones (and not so much) like Marillion, Masters of Bukkake, Mostly Autumn, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Mars Volta, My Man's Meat, Pat Metheny, Metallica etc. As always, I will encourage people to list what they like both in the poll and not in the poll.

These are some I have enjoyed albums by over the years. Some I'm still big on, and some that I have not listened to for considerable years. It will be tough paring this list down to just 25.

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not a fan of The Legendary Pink Dots, having listened to several of their offbeat albums recently.  They're too avant-garde for my mainstream tastes, but I have a feeling they'll appeal to Logan. Smile
