J-Rock band with Jazz Rock influences, recently has moved to a more Progressive sound, Betcover!! started as a solo project by Jiro Yanase, a singer songwriter born in Tokyo, who's love for music sprouted when he got a vintage digital recording system from a friend of his father. The band was originally a solo project but has grown into a five piece band. The band would start off as a jazzy alternative rock outfit but has grown into more of a progressive rock sound, comparable to that of Black Midi, featuring episodes of noise, chaos, and even operatic moments with a blend of Japanese alt rock. It's also noteworthy that when they perform at live performances the original songs with a soothing melody shifts to a more aggressive tone, creating a completely different perspective of the lyrics. This mood transition feels intuitive to the band members and hence adds to their unpredictability and uniqueness. Betcover!! had taken Japan and the indie rock scene by storm and is continuing to grow as of writing this the band is still very young and has lots of potential

They could fit into JR/F or Avant but I think Xover (or at the very least related)fits them especially because their songs are short and they have some pop rock influence

This band certainly belongs on PA for my money, but their music is quite a mashup of different genres/sub genres so I'm really not sure where they'd best fit.  I've seen them described as a mix of experimental alt rock, jazzy prog rock and avant-pop, with the occasional smattering of post-punk, indie rock and noise rock thrown into the mix too. I guess on balance it's a toss up between Crossover and Eclectic, since neither of the other PA sub genres that they seem to dabble in is dominant enough in their music for them to be a fit there.

All their albums are on Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, Amazon etc, with the first two also on Bandcamp, but it seems they ditched that platform for distributing their newer stuff after they suddenly became popular.

Already included on Awesome Prog:  https://awesomeprog.com/artists/21118" rel="nofollow - https://awesomeprog.com/artists/21118 , but I'm not able to add them to the Crossover chart until Mike has done the necessary with my account on there, and maybe the other team members don't think Crossover is a good enough fit anyway, so I await other comments.

I think eclectic is a better fit.

I agree. I will bring this to the Eclectic team's attention.

Is crossover not willing to take him on? I'm already familiar with Betcover!! and even reviewed last year's album on RYM.

It is eclectic for sure but not in a progressive way. The melodies are based on the Japaneses style enka which can be thought of as the Japanese version of the blues and then it mixes in alternative rock, smooth jazz and a dash of avant-prog. I'd call them an indie rock / pop act more than anything with some crossover prog elements which is why i'd personally call them crossover. Never occurred to me to suggest to PA because i honestly didn't think the prog moments were substantial enough for inclusion but i've only checked out the last two albums which are supposedly the most progressive.

If you're dead set against it we'll surely evaluate and probably even clear because it certainly is art rock with prog characteristics

^ Yeah, Crossover is certainly willing to take him if Eclectic don't really consider him to be a fit. I think most if not all of us are agreed that he's worth a place here in one or other of these two subs, but I can't add him to our evaluation chart myself until my Awesome Prog account has been tweaked.

No, we're not against it, if the eclectic team do not think they're a good fir for eclectic, we'll look into them (a lot of movers from eclectic ended up in crossover). Smile

^ Not just yet, the band is still awaiting addition. The Eclectic Team currently has four other bands/artists under consideration, so the addition might take a little longer than I initially suggested.
