Yes, The Deviants are a really good band- they kind of bridge the psychedelic and progressive genres, plus a touch of heavy rock alongside the Zappa style weirdness. Some would argue whether they are worthy of being on the site though I guess.

They did 3 albums- 'Ptooff!' was the debut, 'Disposable' being the second and 'The Deviants' (probably the best) was the last at the time. Mick Farren, the singer, did a solo album at the time called 'Mona The Carnivorious Circus' that from what I've heard sounds quite similar to them. All were totally ignored I believe, and the band dissolved, most of the members ending up in the great Pink Fairies, who started out playing pure space rock yet ended up laying the foundations for UK punk. Mick Farren I think wrote for NME too, plus had a cult following on the pub rock circuit.

Recently, The Deviants reformed and made an album called 'Dr Crow' that was well received.

There have been a few questions on this band here, and it seems to be only me that ever replies to them!

Mike Farren is best known as a science fiction writer for the last 20 years, and he also published his autobiography not so long ago  covering the psychedelic years in London (very readable)- when I  think he wrote for the International Times, underground magazine - and no doubt bedded by Germaine Grear, in her survey for IT (and Oz) to discover how good rock musicians were in the sack.
