“Vents Cycloniques”features mallet percussion instruments; vibraphone, marimba and various Asian percussion along with drums, fretless bass, synthesizer and guitar as the sound concept.
Mark says: “At the age of 18, I had the honor of meeting French percussionist/drummer, Pierre Moerlen from the band GONG at the Marquee Club in London in 1975. Pierre’s melodic drumming and percussion concepts in GONG have no doubt inspired this work. Furthermore, the late guitarist, Alan Holdsworth who appeared on several of GONG’s albums between ’76-’79 is brought back to life by guitarist Joe Berger who did sound for Alan Holdsworth’s band, “I.O.U.” in ’82 and cites Allan’s playing on the GONG “Expresso”album as a major influence on his playing for this work.“
Featured artists on “Vents Cycloniques”include: bassist Dave Sturt of the current Gong and Prog guitarist, Fernando Perdomo, both of whom appeared on the previous Cymbalic Encountersrelease “Eclipsis.” Mark recorded on and performed in Fernando‘s “Out to Sea” band on the Cruise to the Edge in 2022. They also collaborated on The New Empire record “Second Lifetime,” a tribute to Peter Banks’ Empire which featured guest artist, Dave Kerzner and was released on Cherry Red Records.
