Hi there! My names Aimee and I like a lot of what everyone else on here likes apparently. Aside from an occasional forum post regarding a recipe or cat behaviors or board games, I’m pretty sure this is my first experience on forums so forgive me if I make mistakes. A little bit of backstory to explain any outrageous opinions of mine or defend them if need be:
Back in 2009, I started talking to a guy I went to high school with online and he sent me a link or two off of PA. He actually tested if I was date able by having me listen to First Utterance and Larks Tongue. This was more or less my introduction into the genre or… as they say, where it all went downhill. At that point in time I became a pretty big fan of 70s prog, specifically Canterbury, symphonic, eclectic, and electronic. I remember hearing Mirage by Camel for the first time and being in awe with Nimrodel/Procession/The White Rider. Of course my now husband was so excited to have someone to share music with, he threw whatever at me to see what stuck and Camel, Gentle Giant, Anglagard, and Banco definitely did. Eventually he showed me A Wizard, A True Star and that was a life changing moment for me, so much so that I have a tattoo with part of the fun album cover art.
We also play board games all the time but probably not the games a lot and we used to use Slacker Radio for a brief period of time. That was nice because I was able to put together songs with artists which is how I learned about Egg , Yes, and the band I consider to be my favorite, Miriodor. Once falling for Miriodor I found myself looking for anything similar to them in sound and I’ve since learned that it just won’t happen.
That said, my top favorite albums:
1. Edit Peptide by Bubblemath 2. Parade by Miriodor 3. UZed by Univers Zero 4. Eros by Dün 5. Of Queues & Cures by National Health (I switched this out after previously having Thanks for Flying with Us!) 6. Beat by King Crimson 7. Darwin by Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso 8. Vehicle by MiRthkon 9. The Ikon by Utopia 10. Diabolicus Felinae Pandemonium by Pryapisme
And to try and make this post interesting for those who do not care about my personal prog journey, some albums that I feel need more attention in no particular order:
Lemures by Balleto di Bronzo Dogged by Dogma by The Ghoulies Fiction by Eskaton Sol Central by Jose Luis Fernandez Ledesma Neo (both this and their s/t are great!) by La Torre Dell’Alchimista
Thanks for reading and I’m excited to jump into conversation!

Welcome to the site! Your top album list is very idiosyncratic, I like it! Many of these are very much to my taste. I don't know all of them and will check out those I don't. Have you ever tried out Art Zoyd?

I consider Art Zoyd to be a hill I will eventually conquer and appreciate. There’s a single track of theirs that I liked but everything I’ve heard of theirs has been pretty sparse. If you have an album to recommend, I’m more than happy to give them more opportunities.

I keep forgetting to quote in replies. Do you get notified if I reply without quoting you? Apologies! I can internet. But I replied above or below this post.

Not sure what you know. They became more electronic after Phase IV/Le marriage du ciel et l'enfer, and arguably more "sparse". I love the later material and also what most see as the highlights of the second phase (Häxan, Berlin), but Symphonie pour le jour ou bruleront les cites and Phase IV may be more to your liking. Even later material like Metropolis - Eye Catcher - Phase V is great for me, but then I'm very much into experimental electronic music, and chances are you're not.
By the way the first thing that caught my eye on your list was Beat. I love that album and wrote a five star review of it, but we're a small minority - on average it's still KC's lowest rated regular album.
And no, I'm not getting notifications for replies whether or not I'm quoted (it may or may not be possible to arrange for that), but this isn't much of a problem as I check threads in which I had written something earlier anyway.

I think the track I liked was off of Haxan but any time I’ve tried to find it after the fact, the album hasn’t hit me the same. I’ll have to listen more though and I’ll give Haxan another try!
And omg we’re seeing Beat in November!! It’s surprising to me that Beat doesn’t get more love! Of all the bands to live through the 80s, I’d say it’s quite the feat that King Crimson would be one of the few to do it! I feel like that’s the King Crimson that was the happiest together… or should I say the most upBEAT? But I’ve built up a whole tale in my head with Bruford going to be on drugs with Gong, briefly pal around with Phil, only to come back to Fripp requesting he take a drug test after those tours. Adrian was such a fun vocalist for them and of course Tony is just as goofy and talented. I don’t feel like Three of a Perfect Pair is anywhere near as good as Beat but I do feel the good vibes on that album as well.
I was hoping the documentary would resolve speculations I had with Fripp giving Bruford a hard time and it did not in the slightest.

Welcome to ProgArchives, Aimee. You're gonna love it here. On the subject of KC, I love In the Court of the Crimson King, but after that magnificent magnum opus, I generally prefer KC & the Sunshine Band, and talking of drugs, it's just as well pop performers don't have to take a drugs test before appearing on Dutch TV show TopPop. Give It Up for Harry Wayne Casey (KC). Just look at those cocaine eyes!

well I can’t imagine Bruford getting intentionally that messed up! You know… him and Hillage get to talking about how crazy Daevid is and maybe sharing a joint or something. A few years ago I read about the letter that Daevid wrote to Bill when they parted ways. It’s every bit as kooky as one would imagine. (I guess I’m assuming that Psychedelic Paul knows more about Gong than he might. lol)
And I’m certainly not one to judge for I’ve partaken in plenty of extracurricular activities. Definitely not coke though. 😉😆

The magic and the madness of Daevid Allen, going absolutely bonkers for nine minutes straight, with or without the aid of any illegal substances.
DAEVID ALLEN Gong but not forgotten! The magic and the madness of Daevid Allen (1938-2015). Aussie musician Daevid Allen is as firmly rooted in the Canterbury Scene as the Archbishop of Canterbury himself, having co-founded firstly Soft Machine and then Gong, with almost as many offshoots and branches of Gong as Barclays Bank.
