Lunophone is a new collaboration between Dario D'Alessandro and James Strain, who have just released their debut album, "Surroundings".

Biography: "Lunophone is a musical project resulting from a collaboration between Dario D'Alessandro (Homunculus Res) and James Strain (Rascal Reporters). The pair met in 2018 when collaborating on new Organ pieces by fellow Rascal Reporters member Steve Kretzmer, which would eventually culminate in Rascal Reporters' album "The Strange Case of Steve".

The two kept in touch due to a shared love of musical innovation and Strain's interest in Canterbury Scene, and after several contributions to eachother's band projects (including D'Alessandro providing cover art for Rascal Reporters album "The Strange Case of Steve", and Strain contributing to tracks on two Homunculus Res albums) , the duo decided to produce an album together.

Each member composed 6 tracks for the album, and recorded and mixed the project remotely from their homes in Italy and Ireland respectively. The result is an unusual, adventurous and mercurial fusion of styles, largely based in Jazz-Rock with heavy influences from the Canterbury Scene and a distinctive flavour of the complex Avant-Prog associated with Strain's band, of which he is now a full-time member."

I put Eclectic in the subject, however I find them quite tricky to categorise. Homunculus Res are on PA as Canterbury Scene, while Rascal Reporters are registered as RIO/Avant Prog. Lunophone's sound has elements of both, and could also potentially fit into Jazz Rock/Fusion.

The album is listenable here:

Thanks for the suggestion, however to be considered for evaluation you must provide a biography with your suggestion :)

Thanks for the advice! I have edited the post to include a biography - info taken from an interview on canterburyscene.com, their bandcamp, and the progarchives entry for their respective bands. I cannot find a picture of them other than their album cover, but I did find a spliced picture of each member which I have added to the post.

To me this sounds like a Canterbury dominant band so i think i'll present these guys to the JF / Canterbury team. If by chance my teammates find it to eclectic we can always move it.

Our team is at something of an impasse deciding which subcategory would best fit this group; we're currently waiting for the final team member to cast his tiebreaker vote!
