The band was submitted it seems in 2010 with virtually no discussion and it didn't really go anywhere. That thread is locked, so I'm opening a new one.

Winterhorde is a self-described "progressive extreme metal" band from northern Israel. Formed in 2001, they take a bombastic, cinematic, and dramatic approach to black metal, combining melody and symphonic arrangements into a dynamic and cohesive sound well suited for their grandiose concept albums. While the band has has numerous lineup changes since their formation, two members have been with the band since the beginning: vocalists Zed Destructive and bassist Sascha Latman. While clearly rooted in melodic and symphonic black metal, Winterhorde has developed a unique sound in which progressive and cinematic qualities drives the music forward. They band debuted in 2006 with the album Nebula, and followed up with critically acclaimed Underwatermoon in 2010. 2016 saw the release of Maestro, which also became a classic in the progressive underground, and they also released Neptunian in 2023, which was received a little less enthusiastically.

For analysis, the main albums on which to focus are Maestro, then Underwatermoon, and lastly Neptunian. Nebula does not showcase their progressive tendencies very well. I personally think Maestro alone should be enough to include them on this site and I would like to be able to rate their albums here.

Just saw it, I'll respond in a day or so.  Thanks for provoking conversation about something besides "Supper's Ready!"

I just listened to their song "The Spirit of Freedom."

Death metal style growling vocals are not my thing, but they do show creativity and energy.   It is interesting that they hail from northern Israel!

This isn't the album with which you should be assessing them. Maestro and Underwatermoon are better analysis, here. Neptunian is not really full-fledged prog
