I pleased to say that I have just received a signed copy of Out-Bloody Rageous, the new Soft Machine biography by Graham Bennett - as reward for proof reading the author's original draft summer 2004: for instance removing a large number of 'Howevers' (lol), tracking the original source of "Stanley Stamp's Gibbon Catalogue", etc.. Having only been able read the text in draft form previously, I have to say in the finished bound form, the book is even better than I dreamt back in August 2004. I believe it is very well researched biography and clearly a labour of love - but like Sid Smith with 'In The Court of King Crimson', Bennett is not sychophantic. Copious illustrations, including pictures of that famous suit "made by Pam" (listen to the first Machine album for more details) and eventually given to Jimi Hendrix, and up date discography and family tree. Perhaps the only thing missing is an up to date briefing from Mike Ratledge - but nobody has managed to achieve that in over a decade. |
