Greetings friends!

My first post here... the pressure is on! I've visited the site many times in the past seeking out new listening experiences and bands to check out, so thought it was time to formally join up Smile

I'm from Melbourne Australia, and a lover of all kinds of metal, electronic and cinematic mood music. Have been a fan of a lot of prog over the years, from the classics through to today's modern goodies. Hard to list favorite bands, but really enjoy Riverside, Devin Townsend's earlier albums, Anubis Gate and old doomy stuff like Morgion and Solitude Aeturnus etc.

Look forward to getting to know you!

Cheers!

Thank you for the kind greetings folks!

Cristi: They were one of the bands that crossed my tastes over from classical to the heavier side of music... bought Into the Depths of Sorrow on cassette in my teens. Still listen to it!

Logan: You should come visit some time! My biased opinion is that its the most creative of Australia's cities, with a healthy population of musicians and artists. A lot of performance venues and festivals can't seem to survive these days though, so there's certainly some post-Covid lockdown decline going on. Are you in Vancouver? Canada has always been on my bucket-list! Looks like a really diverse and attractive place!

Floydoid: Hello! Yes I've noticed some of the madness. Looks like fun Big smile

Octopus II: Hello back atya! Thanks for popping in and making me feel welcome!

^ Yeah, my brother was just in Melbourne and telling me I should go there too. He lives in Perth. I lived in northern Queensland for a while (I hold tri-citizenship, one of which is Australian). I am in Vancouver and yes, great region. Lots of Australians would come to this region to work at Whistler ski resort (a place where I was lucky to live at one time).

Melbourne sounds awesome.

Logan: It can certainly be fun here! I guess the city might have a lot of the benefits that a place like Vancouver offers too... it might almost feel like a second home lol. Ah Queensland, it's like a different universe up there. Wouldn't mind some of their more tropical weather lol.

Musically speaking, and this might just be my old age showing itself... I think Melbourne has a way to go to return to its glory days. A lot of venues have really struggled and closed down. This has created a lot of competition... but there are still lots of opportunities for folks willing to explore. The place is abundant with musicians, almost annoyingly so haha. The underground "scene" here was magnificent during the early to mid 2000's, but now it takes a lot more seeking out.

What's the live music situation like over there? You folks must get some great shows!

^ The live music situation is pretty good in Vancouver (and some outdoor music festivals in the region), and it's good in Seattle, Washington, US, which is only a few hours drive from here (mind you, the border can be a pain to cross depending on the day and time of day). I don't see as many concerts as I would like.
