Subject: 2020s albums from 25 acts

A not random selection of bands/ artists/ projects included in PA's Prog categories with releases this decade (the 2020s) that I have heard. I am only including albums of these artists that I have heard from this decade with one exception: While I have heard seven 2010s-decade King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard albums, I have only heard Butterfly 3000 from this decade. It ,may not be very respected album by Gizz, but I really like it. I will get down to listening to the other King Gizz albums anon. Actually, it's only quite recently that I started to get into this band in a significant way (did not do as much for me before). Feel free to vote for any King Gizz album of the 2020s, but please specify which one in particular in a post.

A lot of my favourites are not in PA, but I decided to do this rather than one in General Music Discussions. Do you have a favourite of these releases?

Feel free to vote for up to three of these albums by three of these acts (multiple choice enabled, and no more than one vote per act, please) and please feel free to mention any of your favourites not on the list (which would be all of them for some). And if some wish to discuss certain omissions, I am very happy to have that conversation (time and commitments permitting), and I am happy for others to discuss together what they like not on the list. Also I am happy to receive positive and/or negative feedback on the choices. Different tastes, different experiences, different listenings, eh?

    Aksak Maboul - Figures (2020)
Amoeba Split - Quiet Euphoria (2023)
    Björk - Fossora (2022)
Black Country, New Road - For the First Time (2021) or Ants From Up There (2022)
black midi - Cavalcade (2021) or Hellfire (2022)

Ciśnienie (with Lód 9) - Brass Album (2020)
    Current 93 - If a City Is Set Upon a Hill (2022)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END! (2021)
Homunculus Res - Andiamo in giro di notte e ci consumiamo nel fuoco (2020) or Ecco l'impero dei doppi sensi (2023)
Kikagaku Moyo - Kumoyo Island (2022)
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Butterfly 3000 (2021) or any other 2020s release
Kosmischer Läufer - Volume Five (2023)
    Magick Brother & Mystic Sister - S/T (2020)

Regal Worm - The Hideous Goblink (2021) or Worm (2023)
The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention (2022)
Squid - Bright Green Field (2021) or O Monolith (2023)
    Susanne Sundfør - Blómi (2023)
    Swans - The Beggar (2023)
Anna von Hausswolff - All Thoughts Fly (2020) or Live at Montreux Jazz Festival (2022)
    Zopp - Zopp (2020) or Dominion (2023)

Please mention your choices (up to three by three different acts) and any faves you want to from this list in a post, and please do free to mention any other releases you like that you think relevant. And digressions can be fun. :)

Zopp without a doubt, even though it's the only album in the poll I know. Embarrassed

A good reason to vote for it, especially if you like it.

My tastes are not the most mainstream for Prog Archives (but more mainstream with some other music communities).

Without giving it much thought, my top three albums from the list du jour will be (but it being my list I could easily go for others):
black midi - Cavalcade
Swans - The Beggar
Ciśnienie - Brass Album

Lots of great stuff on this list, and hard to settle for three, but I like this kind of challenge (even though on another day my selection could be different). The number one prize in this poll goes to Cisnienie; I know you love that one Greg; not sure whether it has other fans here than the two of us. I will also vote for Fossola, such an astonishing album. The third vote will go to Squid, which is partly because I have voted for Swans so often already and Zopp is the only one that has votes already as I'm writing this, but I really like both Squid albums a lot. After those named probably Anna von Hauswolff's flying thoughts are next. I do like Needlepoint and one of each Black Country New Road and black midi, King Gizzard, Poil Ueda, Aksak Maboul...

Homonculus Rex (the most recent) plus Zopp (although I much prefer their latest) and also Black Midi (both).

I know King Gizzard but don't like them, especially the recent one with the long name. I don't doubt they are talented but it's just not doing it for me.

Amazingly, I voted for a poll winner for a change when it's more often the case that my 2-star albums go on to win a poll. Tongue

Don't speak too soon, currently Black Midi is equal (5 votes each) with Zopp.Smile

But I wonder how mnay votes are for Zopp's Zopp, how many are for Zopp's Dominion, how many are for black midi's Cavlacade and how mnay are for Helffire? To know which specific albums are being voted for because in those cases it's an "OR" proposition.

As for King Gizz, I did not really like the band until quite recently when I started to really explore it more and found muc that had appeal over various albums and after that more music opened up and I grew to like those one that initially held some appeal more. It is such an eclectic band where different albums are of different styles, but much of the jamminess had not appealed to me. No syaing others should like it, but while Butterfly 3000 is one of the albums that I have seen as lowest rated from Gizz, I like it for it's Indietronica/ synthpop, Neo-Psych pop vibes.

I love this:

By the way, the other one I most considred voting for at the time was Squid's Bright Green Field.

Oh lovely to see so many positive responses, and wow, am pleased, Kees, that you know so much and listed those. Thanks. And Cristi, but how you come at some time to say which acts you do like and any albums of interest. I'm interested in the votes and more interested in more than just the votes. Thanks to all for the comments. :)

^ My vote was for Zopp's two albums together, just as they're displayed in the poll, although Zopp's Dominion album is my favourite album in the entire dominion of Canterbury Scene music. Thumbs Up

^ Mea culpa, I should have been clearer. I meant vote for no more than one album by act and when voting, vote for one "or" the other. It's not that important, of course.

^^ Dominion dominates one might say.

I made a youtube playlist, as I commonly like to do, with a track from each of these releases (minus the Morlock, because it's not on youtube, so adding a track from it on bandcamp). Some might like tpo check out or question my choice of tracks. Heck, I question them. :)

Quite abit of that I covered in an earlier topic that was a gneral music discussion about tracks from the 2020s. In that I also had music such as Weyes Blood, Beach House, Bruno Pernadas, Lingua Ignota, Vanishing Twin, Melody's Echo Chamber, Niechęć etc.

Here's my playlist from that topic: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLXcp9fYc6K4JM96KHwOM2XMxfmzjX_3fx" rel="nofollow - CLICK

This is such a great time for diverse music, I feel. Hope some others might share their lists. And maybe get some more topics from this time that cover people's faves.

Thanks, John. Which Zopp and Anna von H albums specifically as those are both "or" options? I'm guessing Zopp's Zopp and All Thoughts Fly.

By the way, I had issues with the code injection in my text until I went to Member Control Panel, then Forum Preferences, then clicked on the "No" option for Enable the WYSIWYG post editor before updating the profile. I see it's a common issue here now.

I should have added Oiapok - Oisolun (2023). It's now in the list beside Morlock as an or option (and I added attack to the playlist from it). Feel free to vote for it as well if you already voted for three.

As is common with me in long lists, feel free to vote with very limited familiarity. I'm most interested to read what you like or are interested in, impressions on any of the playlist music, or what you don't like. And feel free to mention ones not on the list. Or you could post those in https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=131645" rel="nofollow - THIS TOPIC.
