I've got three Ayreon albums (Human Equation, Electric Castle, Dream Sequencer) I really like them, but they are so sonically busy that I have problems focusing on all the stuff that is going on. So for that they get my No.6 position.

I have a fair sprinkling of 21st Century Symphonic Metal favourites too (including Avantasia), so I could add those to the human equation later too if you like. Smile

Yes, it says Fave Five, so I'm choosing five favourite Hard Rock/Metal  bands beginning with the letter "A", just like you did at the top of the page, although I can't promise there'll be exactly five albums by each artist. Smile

In my opinion, definitely

2001: Aesma Daeva - The Eros of Frigid Beauty   Thumbs Up

which I also consider to be Prog Metal, even the band is not on PA.

Another question, since the thread title talks about all Metal, why is this thread not started in General Music Discussions (as now it violates the PA rules)?

well, I think the "metal" includes progressive metal, so the thread is fine where it is.

So it's now fine to violate the PA rules, and all the forums/lounges are for all-music?

I don't think he violated anything. The thread creator still wants people to list prog metal and heavy prog albums.

If you think he did, write an admin to move it where you think it fits.

The rules say:

"Prog Music lounge
This section is for general discussions about Progressive music. Unless and until an artist is included in Prog Archives, they are not considered to be "prog". In other words, discussions in "Prog Music Lounge" should only be about groups/music currently included in Prog Archives, or about progressive music in general. "

Yes you will. I'm posting five favourite albums by each of my Top 5 Hard Rock/Metal bands, of which there's an abundance for the letter "A". When it comes to the letter "B" though, I think it'll be down to just Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult. Smile

So far, I've chosen Aesma Daeva, Avantasia and Ayreon, so there's two more still to come. Wink

Ok so that makes sense - you'll have 5 bands at the end of your posting. The anticipation is killing!!

For the record I couldn't find one band.

5.Alkemyst (SV)

Nice to see Avatarium mentioned ... but are they prog? They're definitely adjacent at least in my book, but not yet included on PA.

No Mike, they are metal. As in my thread title Metal and hard rock prog. I understand, however, the ambiguity in my title, so I have now changed it. As I mean all metal, which includes prog metal but only hard and heavy prog, which also includes prog metal

Prog that is hard or heavy rock as opposed to
prog that is fusion, pop, folk or electronica.

I include two of the albums that I like the most:

- Agalloch (USA) - The Mantle / Pale Folklore
- Anathema (United Kingdom) - Alternative 4 - Judgment
- Anekdoten (Sweden) - Nucleus / From Within
- Angra (Brazil) - Holy Land / Temple of Shadows
- Arena (United Kingdom) - The Visitor / Immortal?
- Ayreon (Netherlands) - Into the Electric Castle / The Human Equation

Then there are a specific handful of musicians who made a specific album or didn't last more than one or two albums:

- Abydos (Germany) - The Little Boy's Heavy Mental Shadow Opera About the Inhabitants of His Diary (project by Andy Kuntz (Vanden Plas))
- Affector (Multinational) - Harmagedon
- Amaran's Plight (USA) - Voice In The Light
- Ark (Norway) - Ark / Burn the Sun (disbanded in 2002 with only 2 albums)

Three great bands right there.

Across the evening sky,
all the birds are leaving,
But how can they know,
it's time for them to go?
Before the winter fire,
I will still be dreaming,
I have no thought of time.

Well, this thread is within the prog lounges... Thus, I'll keep Keldian and Falconer outside of my list, both of which would normally be in my top 3.

So...

1-) Beyond Twilight (Denmark)
2-) Voyager (Australia)
3-) Thought Chamber (USA)
4-) Pagan's Mind (Norway)
5-) Adagio (France)

^ & ^^
The thread creator wanted bands that start with letter "A". Maybe he wanted to continue, with the rest of the alphabet, who knows. Smile

Ah yes. Anyway... We both are wrong in a way, I guess. I missed the letter thing, and Avantasia are not a prog band. Embarrassed

who said Avantasia are a prog band?
I think they were suggested for progressive metal but were rejected.

This thread is within the prog lounges, as I had said; and the OP has Avantasia in his/her list. Clear? Wink

Oh, yeah, you're right.  Smile
I have a non-prog band in my list as well. The thread tile is a bit ambiguous.
