I think the banner A looks way better! It's cool and sexy, while banner B looks like a work of a kindergarten student.

To be frank, I think the old banner looked a quadrillion times better than the one we have currently. IMO the retrofuturistic grid look with the musical instruments far in the background displayed a lot more class and elegance than the badly photoshopped characters cutout from prog album sleeves with that cheap white glow effect this site uses now. Sometimes less is more.

Cool to hear that! I believe both banners have elements which can be percieved differently by different people. That's the reason I created this poll.

It's not aimed at graphics designers its aimed at a bunch of nerds, banner B is nerd worthy.

Also B for me.

What's the history behind these banners? Who created them? and when?

I know the current banner was done by a guy named darkshadeof I believe. If you go to the homepage here and click on "About Us" at the top and scroll down you'll see some of his other collages. I actually bought the RUSH one from him but have never framed it, still have it though.

Banner A looks more professional but also a little bland to me. Banner B has some undeniable early-internet charm.

I never really paid much attention to these, but since looking at them closer, I think I like A better. Banner B seems too "busy" to me. Uncluttering it a little and making the website name bigger might improve it.

While I love many of the bands represented in banner B, I have to say I prefer banner A. "B" presents a preconceived notion of what constitutes Progressive Rock, whereas "A" is more open to user interpretation, which is more in line with the nature of the site.

What's your handle/username over at Stevehoffman.tv? I sometimes lurk around there when I'm thirsty for some technical (or simpy much much geekier than PE and PA combined) discussion about prog remasters or production techniques in music of the past. :P

That's probably something that fell off a charm bracelet, Ken, not an actual house.

Option "B" seems to me to represent better. It has more life and it is always nice to see many of the icons that are part of the whole concept of the progressive genre.

I like the way option B offers some homage to where Prog came from; I think this is important to our site's purpose.

Hi,

The guy that did these, had a whole bunch of these pieces of art, and all of them were far out ... it was nice that PA has taken up the one done for them ... and as mentioned above, it helps you learn more about the music, as did some of the far out posters that the guy put together.

He used to post here a while back, and I forgot his name ... but it was really beautiful work, and very artistic, rather than the plain crap stuff used otherwise which does not state much about the music at all ... and one last thing ... the music HAS COLOR ... the first banner doesn't, like the 2nd one.

I would rather have music that has fantastic color associated with "progressive", not a "modern" meaningless banner, that might look cool, but it has nothing to do with the music itself. This is about the art ... not the banner, and the B sample, gives you the art and where it came from ... and you can't ask for more in terms of hints and ideas of what to listen to.

In fact, we should give that "homework" to any newbies asking what they should listen to ... tell to go after the B Banner details ... way better than some comments many of us make, not to mention more fun, and colorful!

If I went inside that house and found another house, then which of these houses is going to have soap? I'm getting signals that there might even be a house inside the soap!

Update: The banner was announced by M@X in https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=72167" rel="nofollow - October 2010 .

Had to go with B on this one. It means so much because of all the amazing artists on it. It might be the work of a kindergarten student, but at least it's the work of a very cultured kindergarten student.

My name is Abel Adames ( darksideof)
I remember I left the chat because I was getting to many negative comments. I created many other collages but then I got tired and I spent countless of hours for no profit, it was just for fun!!! but I am an old man and I have to support my family!! but one day I might return to create more collages. I was trying to created a collage of the greatest prog keyboards players but that was few years ago!!!

I like cleaner aesthetics, so I voted A, but when banner A was our banner, I eventually stopped seeing it. I'm log past the point where I stopped seeing banner B too. As a 'seasoned' member of the community, my opinion doesn't really matter; it matters more to, when new users come here, does it make them feel like staying, or leaving?
