I'll go along with that sentiment too. I was going to do an ELP 7 X 7 list instead, as I'd struggle to come up with ten albums I really like by ELP and I obviously didn't want to include In the Hot Seat in my list as a last resort, especially bearing in mind In the Hot Seat makes Love Beach look like a masterpiece by comparison.

Take a Pebble
The Great Gate of Kiev (and not the ugly Kiyv)
Tarkus
Abaddon's Bolero
Still, You Turn Me On
Fanfare for the Common Man
Tiger in a Spotlight
C'est la vie or Peter Gunn (Live)
Memoirs of an Officer and a Gentleman
The Score (ELPowell)
I didn't think I'd managed (OK cheated a bit, by including libve albums)
I'll have to relisten to ELPowell, though. It could still change my choice.
BTW; am I the only one to have picked something from Pictures @ Exhibition??
Sure beats the 90's albums

Not much love for "Lucky Man," a song that introduced the mini-Moog to much of the world!!!
1970 Emerson, Lake, & Palmer – Emerson, Lake & Palmer LP “Lucky Man” features a Moog solo recorded by Keith Emerson at the end of the song, and is one of the first songs to feature a synth as a prominent solo instrument.

The OP did say "ignoring live albums".
But if you include them, then it would be Blues Variations.

I'm guessing your list of six good ELP albums won't include Love Beach then.

Desde La Vida is great but the rest of 3 to the power of 3 is not good, mostly AOR and not good AOR. I know how bad ITHS is but and what was going on round that time but Hand Of Truth is decent and would have accepted the studio 'version of Pictures At An Exhibition as it was widely available as a bonus offering on the album.

Nah; but P@E is a classic album that should be considered equal to the studio albums, because all new material
I understand the others should be excluded because it's all studio stuff played on stage

^ Personally I might go for the Babba Yaga section but then I've heard them play that section better on other live recordings such as Lyceum 1970, Mar Y Sol 1972 and some of the bootlegs on the 74 American tour. By 1972 they had dropped Blues Variation altogether (from the live version of PAAE) although with Palmer's shuffle and Emerson's trademark organ playing it was something of a signature peice in the early days.

3. Tarkus: Tarkus
4. Trilogy: Abaddon's Bolero
5. Pictures At An Exhibition: The Old Castle/Blues Variation (can't imagine one without the other, really)

I definitely don't have ten ELP albums that I like, much less ten songs from ten different ELP records (though I do like the first Emerson, Lake and Powell album--does that count?) If I must:
1. ELP - "Lucky Man"
2. Tarkus - "Tarkus"
3. Trilogy - "From the Beginning"
4. Brain Salad Surgery - "Still You Turn Me On"
5. Emerson, Lake and Powell - "The Miracle"
6. Works, Vol. 1 - "Fanfare for the Common Man"
7. Works, Vol. 2 - "I Believe in Father Christmas"
7. Works, Volume II: I believe in Father Christmas
You forgot Tarkus and Pictures...
My main problem with Tarkus is Side 2. I prefer the live version of the title track on Welcome Back My Friends...
My issue with Pictures is the poor recording quality, and the fact that the band's (condensed) performances of the title track actually improved over time. My current favorite version appears on Works Live.

Does anyone really want to hear my favourite song from Love Beach?
No, I guessed not. It'd be about as welcome as sand in your swimming trunks.

6. Brain Salad Surgery - Works Volume Two

9. Canario - Love Beach
10. Street War - In The Hot Seat

Pictures is often hailed as one of the best recorded live rock performances ever so you might be in a minority on that.
For me I go with Mar Y Sol over the Works Live Version but then the Nassau Coloseum and Wheeling performances from 1978 are also really sweet.

I thought Black Moon was a brilliant pop album, especially for the 90's. Glad to see someone else here loves it
