Yikes, this could be difficult from 76 onwards - even including the Ex-Yardbirds line-up

1- Kings & Queens (but it could be anyone on that album)
2- Past Orbits of Dust
3- Kiev (and not the horrible KyivDead)
4- Ashes Are Burning
5- Mother Russia
6- Trip to the Fair
7- Prologue (from CarnegieWink)

8- Can You Hear Me? (I'm snoring  Sleepy )
9- Day of the Dreamer (logical step while snoring Ying Yang)
10- Deep slumber (I give up Tongue)

Things I Don't Understand.... Why did I pick Mother Russia as my favourite song from the Turn of the Cards album when I could've chosen this song instead - especially bearing in mind the Daily Doug is awestruck  after hearing Annie Haslam's incredible vocal range for the first time and says "there's is NOTHING about that song I don't like." Clap

Album / Rating / Best Song

1. Ashes Are Burning ***** the title song

2. Turn of the Cards ***** Things I Don't Understand

3. Live at Carnegie Hall ***** Song of Scheherazade

4. Renaissance ***** Island

5. Prologue **** Bound For Infinity

6. Novella **** The Captive Heart

7. A Song For All Seasons *** the title song

8. Illusion *** Golden Thread

9. Azure d'Or ** Forever Changing

10. Camera Camera ** Ukraine Ways

After relistening the albums It's amazing how the debut album (by band's first incarnation) from 1969 still kicks ass.

I have left out Scheherazade album because you get the best songs on Live at Carnegie Hall (plus some goodies from their best albums). It's also nice to hear the live feel.

I already mentioned Mother Russia, so it's only fair to give the capital of the Ukraine a mention too.

Illusion - Love Goes on
Prologue - Spare some Love
Ashes are Burning - Can You Understand, On the Frontier, or at the Harbour
Turn of the Cards - Black Flame or Mother Russia
Scheherazade - Trip to the Fair
Live at Carnegie Hall - Ashes are Burning (though for Annie's performance in the final part nothing beats the version on Live in Chicago 1983)
Novella - Midas Man
Song for all Seasons - Opening Out, Day of the Dreamer, Kindness at the End, Northern Lights, or Song for all Seasons
Camera Camera - Okichi San
Symphony of Light - Mystic and the MUse or Grandine Il Vento

I might add that it's not really a song I consider to particularly great or even good. But that goes for the rest of Camera, Camera as well. Annie's voice is too shouty and "girlie" on most of this album for me to genuinely enjoy any of it. And the production generally sucks as well. Cheap sounding synths, thin and treble heavy. But the ABBA-like chorus here is drop dead gorgeous. It deserved a better song and sound surroundig it. I also like that it's a song about fairies.

I see what you mean. Annie sounds nothing like the singer we know and love, but the chorus is magical - just like Faeries (Living at the Bottom of the Garden). My personal favourite from the Camera Camera album is Bonjour Swansong, which seems a fitting song title, bearing in mind this is the album where Renaissance went in a New Wave direction and waved goodbye to their Symphonic Prog roots - at least until the 2001 Tuscany album anyway. Confused

I actually like a lot that she tried out some nonstandard things with her voice on that album. It is fresh and full of ideas, although admittedly not all of them work well. The sound is not optimal but I like the playing a lot, guitars, keyboards, bass, some of it also nonstandard for Renaissance and full of ideas.

I appreciate the attempt, but I can't say I consider the end result a success. A shame as I can hear that they had a greater album in them. Glad you like it but Camera, Camera ends up a "close, but no cigar" for me.

A rare song from the transitional line-up, but who's the mystery lady on vocals? Ermm
