Subject: Your Favorite Radiohead Songs!

I literally sat watching paint dry. So I started working on a list of my most treasured Radiohead songs. And found it difficult to stop. I suppose Radiohead in many ways is "the band of my life". They've always been there. I actually bought Pablo Honey in my late teens. I only thought it was ok, but after that my love and admitation for them has only kept growing. Sixty amazing songs! Every song is an adventure. Beauty and excitment.
So post your 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or 60 (like I needed) favorites!
1 How to Disappear Completely 2 Pyramid Song 3 All I Need 4 Motion Picture Soundtrack 5 The National Anthem 6 There There 7 Everything In Its Right Place 8 The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy 9 Burn the Witch 10 Life in a Glasshouse

I'd have to revisit, but here are some of my favourites.
1. Daydreaming 2. Exit Music (For a Film) 3. Pyramid Song 4. Everything in Its Right Place 5. How to Disappear Completely 6. All I Need 7. The Numbers 8. Treefingers 9. Lucky 10. We Suck Young Blood 11. The Gloaming 12. Videotape 13. Climbing Up the Walls 14. There There 15. Burn the Witch 16. Optimistic 17. The National Anthem
Excellent band, took me a while to really "get". It was A Moon Shaped Pool that most got me into the band, and this powerful scene from Westworld at the end of season one (don't watch if you have not seen the show). Gives me shivers...

What I can say is that the more I listen, the more I discover just how many layers of complexity, details and investment in compostition, parts, moods, changes etc - that lies hidden in less obvious ways than in your "classic prog". I'm in awe. I could hear that they were somewhat different from either Bends or OK Computer but I didn't really take notice at first. It was a more of a purely emotional response. I can't think of any bands within some sort of mainstream in the last couple of decades that has kept their art so pure (without slipping into total obscurity).
Btw, interesting that you've got two of their most "left field" songs Kid A and Idioteque in your selection of wonderful, but more conventional "hits". I love them both, but here's like 50 songs I would have guessed you'd pick over those two:)
-I'm also sure I would have enjoyed Creep a lot more if it was just one of their old songs, and not both played and covered to death. It's probably great at what it is.

16. Optimistic
Great selection! Of course. I love every song on it, so how could it not be. But on my sixty song strong list I managed to not include your 16th entry - which is all wrong. It should be some place in the top 25-30 area. Such a vital element to what has to be my absolute favorite of theirs and an all time favorite in music. Kid A is near perfection as any band can ever get imo (whatever that means).

I've seen that Westworld-season btw.

I only heard a track or two from the debut and King of Limbs and wasn't overly impressed (anyone here to convince me to give King of Limbs another try?). The Bends is an OK album but a big distance away from what came then. But then comes the phase that makes it extremely hard to put together a list, because 90% of the tracks on OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief are listworthy and I love all of these album from beginning to end (Hail... seems to be liked less overall at least on PA but I think it's a great album, every bit as worthwhile as the three before it). I thought don't like In Rainbows that much but I went through it again inspired by this thread. Actually it is a very good album, it just disappointed me a bit after the four before, which is unfair to some extent. I should listen to it more. Moon Shaped Pool once more is a classy album as a whole but its highlights are not quite up with some others.
Here's the list I can come up with right now, also trying to put things in some kind of order, but really, anything of their big four albums could be on there, and quite high.
There There
Everything in its Right Place
Pyramid Song
Climbing up the Walls
Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box
Optimistic
Lucky
The Gloaming
Karma Police
I Might Be Wrong
Like Spinning Plates
Where I End and You Begin
The National Anthem
Dollars and Cents
Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief
Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Sit Down. Stand Up.
The Numbers
Kid A
Ful Stop
15 Step
Street Spirit

I think a lot like you. At least I used to. I wasn't totally on board with In Rainbows myself until years later. And A Moon Shaped Pool was a slow burner. I do not really listen to The Bends (only two tracks from it on my list), but it's a strong album on its own merits. For years it was mainly Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief that got all my listening time. King of the Limbs has also grown on me upon revisiting. And then there's all the bonus songs in addition to the official albums. Full albums worth of excellence. Their debut can be skipped really.
These two songs were both on the Pyramid Song single or EP. Both favorites of mine:

I couldn't name any Radiohead songs, but the only two Radiohead albums I own and still listen to are The Bends and OK Computer, which is better than okay.
I did have one other Radiohead album, but I've forgotten what it was.

I tend to think that Radiohead moved beyond the idea of having 'Hit songs' with Kid A. That album is a total masterpiece and perfect all the way through. I pretty much picked those 2 tracks randomly. I also love In Rainbows much the same way.
Easier to remember the earlier songs because they stand alone better. Creep must be one of the best 'bloke' songs ever written. Talking of cover versions I do like the one in the TV series Lucifer

^Glad you enjoyed them. I could almost rave about Radiohead's B-sides, archived tracks or bonus-songs I got for free as a fan* after having bought albums from their homepage etc... - much like Dr. Prog and his Jethro Tull-non album tracks obsession. But I don't:)

Yes I see what you mean with Kid A and In Rainbows in particular (and for me A Moon Shaped Pool as well). But I guess I remember most of their songs anyway. While not resembling a hit (except for maybe There There which actually reached no. 4 in the UK charts) any of their post-2000 songs got such a distinct identity or feel to them that they start playing in my head just by seeing the title.

Very nice thread! I love Radiohead! But I don't know every song by heart. So to give you my top songs, I will listen to all of them first.
So far I've listened to A's and B's... now the C's are just beginning (with "Climbing Up the Walls"). I enjoy this listening experience!

Awesome! Glad to be "useful":)
As far as I'm concerened, there's no dip in quality form top to bottom. It's just that some of the songs at the top of the list are the closest to my heart really. Even outside the list there's plenty of greatness. Yesterday, while listening to A Moon Shaped Pool the song Numbers stood out, so I had to edit i it in. Stunning.

It's funny.. just a couple of days ago I was reviewing Radiohead's discography.
(I was looking for a song really, and getting through the albums to find it... , so I had the homework mostly done).
My preferences limit mainly to The Bends, OK Computer and Kid A, that are the ones I like (the others I don't know well / don't like that much).
Also, with time, I tend to like the "in between" songs..
Bones (favorite right now)
Paranoid android (all-time favorite)
Optimistic
My iron lung
In limbo
Bullet proof ... (love it)
The bends
The tourist
Just
Morning bell
Knives out
Scatterbrain
Airbag
Planet telex

I remember it as a dime a dozen early 1990's plain altenative guitar rock. Something I have little to no interest in or patience for. That 1.5 star rating is from 2009 though, and haven't listened to it ever since. As I've grown softer and "more inclusive" since then, it's entiely possible it may get two stars from the older and wiser Saperlipopette!. But that means I got to relisten to it first.
Here's an interesting comparison from on how these albums are widely regarded on internet's biggest music community RYM:
Pablo Honey is ranked 933 for 1993 and naturally nowhere near the all
time 10 000. Kid A holds the number one spot for year 2000 - and ranks sixth
overall/all time.
