Five tracks from 5 M bands from about the same time, choose one that you like, and feel free to vote without knowing all (I suggest checking out some of each track at least before voting).
Magenta - "The Ballad of Samuel Layne"
Miriodor - "Avanti"
miRthkon - "Eat a Bag of DiX"
Mostly Autumn - "Go Well Diamond Heart"
Motorpsycho & Ståle Storløkken - "Through the Veil"
I very much like the Miriodor, MiRthkon, and Motorspycho tracks. I'm going with "Through the Veil" over "Avanti" and "Eat a Bag of DiX".

"Eat a Bag.." is, imo, one of the weaker tracks from the killer album "Snack(s)", so have to vote Miriodor. Don't care for Paul's favorite band or Motorpsycho.

Magenta... I remember them playing it live on the Metamorphosis tour at the Robin, back in '08... just stunning..

Nice collection. The Miriodor track is wonderful, most of these are quite good. Not so keen on Mostly Autumn.

Right now listening for the first time to Miriodor's Avanti! (my first encounter with this band) and wow...
WOW! So great music. Reminds me sometimes to Gentle Giant.
Thanks Logan for posting this!

Thanks, Daniel. It's a wonderful album from what is, I think, a wonderful band. It's an album that I have listened to much more than the other choices here, and it was one of the top ten in the Collab album of the year for 2009 -- at number ten. I think it was my number two after Magma's E-Re, which is another M that I considered for this poll but I wanted to go a bit different than those bands I have most covered in topics during my time here. The Gentle Giant sound is well-heard, that is the first band that I compared to hearing Miriodor on an earlier album. It was the first post classic Prog band that I recall getting into, and at the time I was hugely into Gentle Giant. I wasn't searching for Gentle Giant like bands but I was listening to Cuneiform samples at its website and heard Miriodor music and immediately loved it (that was off 3rd Warning) and compared it to Gentle Giant. I recently had been disappointed with a Spock's Beard purchase as I had read that it was very Gentle Giant-like, but Miriodor has that kind of quirky, adventurous feel much more I believe.
I am glad to see Avanti doing so well, wonderful track off a wonderful album, and while included in RIO/Avant, it is an album that I know many who don't consider themselves to be into RIO/Avant generally have appreciated. It would I think be more accessible to many than other Miriodor albums, but is kind of different to its other albums, but similar too (a very weak statement from me).

And to any, if you don't like my choice of tracks, please do mention your favourites. Sometimes my choices are due to youtube availability and laziness. I don't own that miRthkon album, but instead own the earlier. I know the Black Sabbath cover best off that album. I know that the ones I used wasn't the miRthkon track I had planned on using, but the other didn't come up at the time, and I though that one worked well with another track from another band that I was planning to have (I try to think of how the tracks work and fit together often rather than just the individual quality of each one). As for the Motorpsycho, that track I chose I kind of out of my wheelhouse in part (with some voval sections), but it was fitting yesterday's mood. Avanti would have been the most obvious choice for me, but Avanti! also is the album I know by far the best, which makes it less fresh to these ears (still love it).

Oh, still not. I thought the last time I had tried it took and fixed the issue. It may be that I did that at the time that the update would have rolled back my changes. Will try again later today. Please PM me if there are still issues tomorrow.
EDIT: I did it sooner than I thought I would. It's showing that the changes took now, try voting please.

Voted Magenta because I really like Booth's voice and the melodies they w rite.
Miriodor was interesting and I thought I heard some avnt garde Canterbuy in there.
mirthkon was not in my wheelhouse
Mostly Autumn was a bit boring and unremarkable
Motorpsycho was also interesting but not a fan of that lp though I like quite a few of their other ones.

You keep putting your lists upside-down.
Oh wait. I get it. The numbers on the left correlate to the number of stars they get. OK. That checks out.

Ok Greg....
listen, my vote will still go to Magenta; probably always will (I love the band), which leaves me in the prog-lightweight category, I know...
the Mostly Autumn you have chosen, is sadly not from their strongest era; there are a couple of albums where in my view, the quality of their output dipped, and you have found it...
tell you what though, the Motorpsycho is actually rather swish. Really wasn't expecting anything that interesting; I'm pleasantly surprised...
I can cope with the Miriodor these days, far more than I would have done in the past. I find it quite listenable to, but probably won't fill my collection with it, however as it's still not the sort of thing I gravitate to.
The miRthkon again, I don't run away from, but it's still just a little too 'angular' and avant-garde for my tastes, but you never know... you have put three pieces of music my way in this thread, where the door would have been shut much earlier in the past than it is now, so thanks...
