I checked: the last time this poll question was posted was in 2007 (though there was another asking about the lyrical content of both albums in 2013).  So, it seems good time to ask again.

The first two post-Gabriel Genesis albums, same year.  Which one do you like more?

As for myself, I give a slight edge to W&W, based largely on my love of Blood on the Rooftops, and in spite of the fact that I don't like that Your special Way song too much (though I heard it last week and didn't think it so bad--makes me worry I'm getting too old and soft, or something).

Gonna have to give the slight nod to ATOTT, though W&W is amazing as well

Funny enough, I actually listen to the Phil Collins prog era (from Trick to ATTWT) more than the Peter Gabriel era these days. There's just something about the atmosphere of those records that hits me a bit harder, especially in autumn Smile

Both are incredible albums but ATOTT is slightly better imho. Plus Tony Banks MMM is worth the vote Alone!

I first saw Genesis on the Wind and Wuthering tour so that was very special but I have to give it to 'Trick'.

Mine is the first 'both equally' vote. I can also alternate in terms of which is my fave depending on my mood.

Yes I like them about equally as well

Trick is flawless, while Wind is hardly so (and not just because of YOSW, I'm not a big fan of Gorilla, and TBH, Afterglow has become a bit irritating over the decades.

but those two have the two best Genesis album covers for sure.

I like Wind And Wuthering clearly more, so i voted option number 2. I think that tracks like Unquiet Dreams/Quiet Earth, One For The Vine (even the title is great!) and Blood On The Rooftops are greater than anything on ATOTT.

Maybe, but Your Own Special Way ruins the flow of the album, not to mention it gets cringy with repeated listens.
I agree with what Sean Trane said above about Afterglow. Good song, but it gets old fast.

Trick of the Tail by a wide margin for me. It may be my second favorite Genesis album after Foxtrot.

Trick of the Tail, but only slightly.

Trick of the Tail is a very good 4* album, Wind and Wuthering is a solid but unremarkable 4* album.

A Trick of the Tail is better by a wide margin.

Even if "Your Own Special Way" were replaced by "Inside and Out" (as it should have been), both "All in a Mouse's Night" and "Blood on the Rooftops" are a bit "twee" and make Wind and Wuthering a "very good" rather than "great" album.

I wouldn't say by a wide margin but I do like ATOTT better since I think it's a little more consistent.

yep inside and Out is a 5 stars track and would have been a nice addition to W/W
Your own special way was probably selected to satisfy a top single request by Charisma or band management
All in a mouse's night is imo a very nice track, it deserves its place on W/W

Trick, but only narrowly.

Haven’t listened to either for a while.

In fact, I need to have a bit of a Genesis session….

I'm happy with Match Of The Day and with W&W just as they are. Almost every classic Genesis album includes some More Fool Me, or whatever that not everybody likes. Consistency per se doesn't elevate me at all, a great song is rather required. And TBH, Squonk isn't much of an elevator, give me YOSW anytime. Mad Man Moon, Entangled, that ones I love.

like them both equally they both have their different magic Your own special way sort of takes W&W off the perfect album list. Although I like it more now then I did originally.

To those that mentioned "Your Own Special Way", that song is SUPER out of place on the album. It does not fit the record at all... I still think that A Trick of the Tail is only slightly better than Wind & Wuthering.....

I find it weird how Trick of the Tail is winning so notoriously. Even though there are many songs I like a lot on both albums, in Trick it is mostly poppier songs to my ears, while the songs I like from Wind and Wuthering are proggier, and in general, my favourites from the era... mostly One for the Vine, which for me captures best what I loved from the Gabriel era, and Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers in that Quiet Earth (for me a single song), which is my very favourite Genesis instrumental (easily over Los Endos). And Afterglow closes with also one of my favourite pop moments from the band.

I much prefer the much poppier ELO Time to the much proggier ELO 2 - and do not take such things into consideration. Maybe that's why? (I voted that I like them equally though)

While I don't find them to be similar pieces, YOSW and the track AToTT are similarly the most accessible tunes on their respective albums, and I'm surprised that one gets so much more hate than the other. Sure, YOSW is "sappier," one could say, but they are both pretty easy-going pop rock tracks. And YOSW actually has some more interesting and unexpected chord progression choices, particularly in the middle section. It just seems like the chorus is what turns away the proggers.

That being said, I still probably prefer the track AToTT. Mostly playing devil's advocate here.

^ O do enjoy A Trick of the Tail, pop and all. I don't really care for Your Own Special Way... I would actually have to listen to it again, though, I don't really remember it very well. In any case, Wind and Wuthering does have Afterglow, which is rather poppy too, and I find much more enjoyable than those two.

Yes, of course. The thing for me is that those songs on Wind and Wuthering are not only proggier, but I like them better... yet, it's my own taste, of course.
